A Fond Farewell and 'Blagodarya!' to Bulgaria

September 27th 2019
How time flies when you're having fun! Our time in Bulgaria was quickly drawing to a close. The previous day was our last full day in Plovdiv and the greater part of it was spent exploring Asen's Fortress and Bachkovo Monastery in the Rhodope Mountains. This was followed by a few final hours in Plovdiv's Old Town where we had lunch, and bought & mailed postcards before returning to the hotel. W ... read more

Amazing architecture
Hello Dave & Merry Jo, thanks for your visit to my blog. Sorry for this late response to your comment as we are just back in the country. Bulgaria's architecture and monasteries were a great surprise and so different from other countries we've visited in Europe. The trip was definitely an eye-opener!! Hope you will visit Bulgaria some time in the future!

We saw that for real
We went to the Buzludzha Monument and saw it IRL. It was cool but the journey there and the environment was better than the actual monument. It is in a terrible state and is basically a ruin today. /Ake

We saw that for real
Thanks for reading my blog, Ake Och Emma! In a way it''s a shame that Buzludzha was not maintained for its architectural attributes, but I can understand why the Bulgarians had no interest in it at the time. I believe I read that now there is some interest in restoring it with funding coming from outside of the country. I know that none of my friends who visited it were allowed to enter because it was so dangerous.
