Well it is the last full day on board the ship :-( Cases pretty well packed and ready to go give or take a few odds and ends. Temperature getting a bit cooler now but still nice and sunny at about 14 degrees. Had a good evening last night with a meal in the Rhodes which combined a special menu with selected wines. An associate winemaker was in attendance who gave a talk between each course which provided interesting information some of which was even absorbed by riff raff like us! A lucky group of just 40 managed to get seats for this event, and not sure what we did to deserve it but we were rather embarrassingly seated with the wine expert himself. Fortunately he was very down to earth type of guy who took ... read more

Going Local in Acapulco After being warned off about drug dealers and certain doom of being mugged as we step off the ship we still decided not to do a P&O tour! We thought, well how bad can Mexico be? After getting off the ship and having the obligatory sombrero picture taken by the photographers we battled through the ranks of pushy taxi and tour drivers. Finally finding our way to the main road we crossed escorted by armed tourist police. It was at this point we realized we needed to keep the camera ready as we missed the photo opportunity of a large black truck carrying a group of police/soldiers standing in the back, dressed in black bullet proof gear. All facing outwards heavily armed with automatic weapons, wow just like the news reports back ... read more

Heading for Acapulco Two days of chilling out and have found another hobby, whale watching. The sea was incredibly calm yesterday and looked more like treacle than water. The picture of the reflection of the ship in the water is amazing considering we are speeding along at abour 23 knots. Staring at the sea like this we were then staggered to see a turtle floating by. Spurred on by this we spent about an hour and a half with our Australian friends transfixed by the sea. We were rewarded with countless flying fish, two more turtles, pods (I think that may be the collective noun) of Dolphins/Porpoise some rather large fish jumping out of the water, I think being pursued by said Dolphins and to top the lot a sighting of a whale! Today we have ... read more

All I can say is WOW! We did the transit of the Panama Canal yesterday and it was absolutely amazing. The day started rather earlier that I would have liked for a holiday but at around 6 am Nigel was already on deck watching the ship enter the breakwater that starts the transit of the canal. I joined him a little later ;-) at about 7am for breakfast before we approached the first set of locks. We already knew the gap would be tight but when you actually witness a ship of this size squeezing into a space with about a foot each side, the mind boggles! Impossible to describe the details in a short blog but needless to say it's rightly decribed as the eighth wonder of the world and we hope you enjoy the ... read more

Today is Sunday and it’s our first full day at sea. Up a bit late and headed to breakfast about 10.00AM in the Horizon Lounge on Deck 14 (only need to climb one flight of stairs which is good). Some eggs on toast with coffee and I’m good to go. Had a look at the Activity List and decided we’d catch the presentation about how to shop in Ports of Call in the show lounge. Some aussie guy was running this explaining why we can get Diamonds here so cheap. Something about cutting out 8-9 middle men I think he said and it was Diamonds International we need to shop at who are one of a few companies who buy direct from DeBeers who own all the world’s diamond mines. He also gave us some tips ... read more

Today is a day at sea; we are headed back to San Diego. We slept until 7:45. We met everyone for breakfast. We walked out on the deck, planning to spend the day at the pool, but as we have traveled north, it has gotten colder and the wind is wicked so we will not be doing that. Lola goes to Camp Carnival, activities for kids and we go to bingo. Ken hates bingo. Of course we do not win the $800 jackpot. We go pick up Lola and head to lunch. We are all planning on dieting (or just go back to ‘normal’ eating) after the cruise. After lunch we go back to the room. I took a 2 hour nap (don’t feel sorry for me) and Ken reads. Before long, it is time to ... read more

Hello From Australia!!! What a time we are having. We spent Christmas with Jacob, Pauline and her sister Marion. It was about 80 degrees and sunny. We are surrounded by trees at our apartment. Christmas morning we were awakened by the most amazing chorus of birds. One is a large raven sized black bird that sounds like a person laughing. Haw, Haw, Haw!!! It is not a Kukaburra like we hoped. There are parrots of all colors perched and flying about. It is fantastic! Boxing Day is December 26th. Boxing day is set aside for everyone to help the needy. It seemed more like a national holiday for everyone to be out and about. We all took the train into Sydney. Wow, what a day. It was once again very warm. We started on a bus, ... read more

Good Day Friends and Family- I am sitting here in Taupo, New Zealand listening to a cricket match on the T.V. The weather is overcast and a bit cool. We have had quite an emotional beginning to our travels. We traveled to Tahiti without a hitch. The flight went quickly, we ate, we rested, we watched movies, we ate again and then we were there. We got a ride from Po Po, who became our guide two days later for a ride around the island. Po Po's step-father was on the filming crew for the movie Mutiny on the Bounty with Marlon Brando. Movie night option for the Spring, friends. That film was shot in Papetee, where we are staying. I have attached a few photos. The weather was hot and humid, but nice in the ... read more
