Oceans and Seas » Caribbean February 2nd 2014

Already, I'm finding it challenging to keep steadfast to this blog. You have been faithful to me and my ramblings so I must stay steady. So many things to do and see limits my blogging time. My memory isn't as sharp as it used to be plus I am faced with sensory overload while on this jubulient, floating castle. I've now resorted to old fashion note taking to use in preparing my blog. Housekeeping note: remember I am writing this blog while on our journey but not publishing it until we get home (no Internet service on the boat unless I want to pay $10 for 1/2 hour).... You're worth it but I'm not sure my blog is. So, today is actually Super Bowl Sunday (and we are back in the real world in our RV) ... read more

We love to cruise! You can't beat the bang-for-buck and the ability to wake up every day and be some place new. 13 of us all got together and decided to take a fun 5 day cruise to Cozumel and Progreso, Mexico on Carnival's Elation. Jason and I cruised with: Greg & Mel (first time!), Laurie & Devin, Alvie & Kristie (First time!), Megan & Jeremy (First time!), Dana & Ryan H, and Ryan T. Elation is a smaller ship compared to some of the monsters out there, but she's a fun ship nonetheless. I've been on her sisters: Sensation, Fascination, and maybe one other? We decided to cruise out of New Orleans because of the price, and also to stay an extra day afterwards. (There will be a separate entry on that later!) The Itinerary: ... read more

My dreams come true when our youngest son bought us an exotic 7 days Caribbean cruise aboard the Carnival Liberty cruise ship. I was impressed by the customer services that the crew members provide. Our stateroom was large enough for me and my husband. They clean our room twice a day. Foods are excellent, from the buffet foods they offer if you just want to eat casually on a very relaxing atmosphere at the 9th deck overlooking the ocean or you can select to eat your dinner in a formal dining setting in the third and fourth silver deck where they catered to your desire. Food service staffs were all efficient and friendly. There are lots of thing to do in the ship, from casino, listening to live bands playing 70s, 80to and incurrent upbeat music. ... read more

C’était notre deuxième mise à l’eau ... read more

(I'm writing this blog entry in 2014, but wanted to share as much as I can remember along with the pictures!) The Oasis of the Seas is HUGE! We had a blast on this ship. We cruised out of Ft. Lauderdale on our honeymoon. There are multiple areas including the pool(s), central park with real trees, and a carnival area complete with a carousal. It even has an ice skating rink. Most ships have a single tower of rooms, this one actually splits the room blocks into two so that you have complete open air in the middle of the ship. The result is balconies that can face the action, or face the water. There is a zipline and 2 flowriders (waves / boogie boarding), putt putt, rock climbing wall, dive show theatre... it goes on ... read more

Hello one more time from the Island Princess. We continued today on our cruise back to Florida. Earlier today they reported that we were about 50 minutes off the coast of Cuba. Anyway we should arrive on schedule. This morning we slept in until almost 8:00 – tomorrow will be a much earlier morning – so we wanted to be well rested at the end of our cruise. We went up to the breakfast buffet and had our usual breakfast. I guess we haven’t described that process as much as the dinners, so here’s our chance. Each person starts with a platter which is much larger than a full-sized dinner plate. There are virtually every kind of breakfast item you can imagine and you can take as much of everything as you want. Then you can ... read more

Hello from the Island Princess – somewhere in the Caribbean and unfortunately, heading home. We have two sea days left and we are going to enjoy them for as long as it lasts. We slept in this morning without any wake-up call and completed a good night’s rest. Somehow yesterday had been kind of tiring so this is a good day for doing very little. We had a little breakfast in the Horizon Court, and this time Janet got to try their “Texas-sized French Toast”. She initially asked for 2 slices, but changed to just one slice after she saw how large it was. David had his usual Ham & Cheese Omelet but added a Belgian Waffle today. We went down to the Captain Circle representative. This is basically someone to ask whatever questions you have ... read more

Waking up on the penultimate day, on opening the curtain it was evident that we were just coming out of a rain shower. In the remnant, a rainbow had appeared. However, this spectrum of light seemed to be our own private rainbow as it was just outside our cabin. Not C418 or C422, OUR cabin!! You could clearly see one end dipping into the briny although neither of us were prepared to swallow dive in to the Caribbean (no matter how inviting!) to see if we could find the pot of gold!! Like most entertainment on all cruise ships we have been on, the shows have been hit and miss. One of the shows that has definitely been a hit was 'On the Bayou'. This was a big enough production to be staged in the main ... read more

Woke up to find the weather pretty ordinary on the balcony. Squally showers and only about 20 degrees. The seas were a bit choppy as well. Had another snooze and when I woke up again around 10.30 the sky was getting clearer, and by lunchtime it was now fine and sunny and back to usual 30 degrees. The sea was flat as a tack with just a small swell evident. Had cereal and fruit for breaky but spoilt by a bad coffee which just lingered. Lunch I had my first Cheeseburger & fries and a little potato salad, while Kerry had the healthier Tuna sandwich from the Deli. Only did the one Trivia session today which was sports based. Joined forces with a couple who could barely speak English but we managed to score 10 of ... read more
