First things first; Sorry that it’s been ages since my last blog. I promise that this one is going to make up for it. Of the people that email me, most of them ask me what the craziest thing that I’ve done so far is, and normally I really have to scratch my head to think up something. But I can outright say that it’s now a no brainer. Last week the Captain let me take the control of the vessel coming into port when we stopped at St Thomas! Although officially he still had the control as I don’t have a license, I was making the wheel orders. Last year on the Independence I was at the wheel quite often, but that meant I was taking wheel orders from someone else. Being the person giving ... read more

Hello again everyone! Things have been going very well here. I’ve been meeting lots of interesting people, learning tons, and having fun doing it. This blog is going to sound all over the map as I don’t have many things to go very in depth about. As the Oasis of the Seas is so damn big it needs some big lifeboats. The lifeboats are so big that they hold as many people as the Seabus in Vancouver. In Nassau I went down in one of em so I could learn how to drive it. They are actually not as hard as one would guess as having 2 engines make them quite maneuverable. Last week when we were in St Thomas I took a short 10 minute walk from the ship to the next bay over where ... read more

FREEDOM SEA DAYS – TWO IN A ROW Anyone who has been following my blogs knows how much I enjoy sea days. On the Freedom it’s no different except there are so many more options and yet the ones that appeal to me are basically the same. Sea Day 1 Breakfast in the Windjammer included really good hash. No smoked salmon today but so many other choices are available. MaryLu and I had a two-top by the window and enjoyed a healthy start to the day. Next was a Q&A with the Captain. Rob Hempstead. He is from RI and his career included factory-fishing ships in the Bearing Sea and the west coast of Africa. He has a great sense of humor and was entertaining as well as informative. He explained for Azipods work and what ... read more

Coco Cay Awoke early, had breakfast in the dining room (smoked salmon or course) and headed to the tender station. Since Ann and Bill had been there before they led the way to a lovely area far from the crowds. We found lounge chairs near an umbrella where we would have shade later in the day. I headed to the water with my snorkel gear knowing full well that the sightings would be slim. I could wade 500” from shore and still be up to my thighs. It was the only recent snorkeling I have done that the only fish was spotted while I was putting on my fins. Still the water was warm and salty and the sun was shining, the terns were fishing and the gulls were too. Back at the lounge a couple ... read more

Freedom of the Seas (It’s really big) We arrived at the port at 10:30 and were able to check in right away since Bill and Ann have Emerald status and we were able to tag along. We sat in the elite section for a short time and then proceeded to have our picture taken. Once that was done we boarded and made our way to the Windjammer for lunch. If it wasn’t for Bill and Ann we would still be trying to find our way. We were able to get a table by the window at the stern where the view of the port was great. This buffet venue is very attractive with lots of stations for various food options. We all opted for salads. We started to explore the ship. It’s really, really big! First ... read more

To whom it may concern. Just wanted to share some pictures that we took when we visited your Caves last week in Jamaica. We are from Barrie Ontario Canada... It was one of our high lights visiting the Green Grotto Caves. What a great thing to do when you need a break from Jamaica's hot sunshine. I use to live in Jamaica back in the 60's. We lived in Port Royal, Morgan's Harbour. I wanted to take my kids to the house that I grew up in but we didn't have enough time. If we come back to Jamaica I will for sure come and visit your caves again... We are telling everyone we know about your special place. My youngest daughter Mackenzie is thinking of doing a school project on your caves. Take care and ... read more

Sail away My cave is great! First time in an inside cabin and I lucked out with a very large one. I have a wrap around sofa and coffee table. The bed is set up as a queen and there is at least 4 feet of room on each side. This is more room than the average ocean view cabins I’ve been in. There is plenty of closet space, a frig, safe, and ample size desk. It’s aft so I get some motion and I keep the TV tuned to the bow cam and therefore have a view. Right now I’m watching the sunrise as we approach Half Moon Cay. It’s looking like a lovely day. Yesterday I was invited to a Mariners luncheon on boarding. There I met a couple from NC and three retired ... read more

January has now come and gone. The month started with a bunch of goodbyes . . . The Dream Teen Team was being split up. First Kritina (my co-director) left to go home for vacation. I miss her in the club so much! I have never enjoyed work on the ships more than I have the 2 months I was working with Kristina. We worked so well together, had the same balance of wanting the teens to have a good time, but ensuring the rules were being followed. We laughed and laughed and laughed all the time. I never dreaded going to work because I had her through it all. Then a week after Kristina left, Jenny (one of the directors for the younger teen club) left to transfer to another ship. I worked with Jenny ... read more

Saturday Jan 22nd, 2011 Caribbean Sea: Latitude 13 degrees 33 minutes- Longitude 80 degrees 24 minutes We spent the day yesterday on Grand Cayman Island. The water was that incredible shade of clear blue as we boarded our cramped tender to be ferried into shore. I wanted to simply dive off the edge of the boat and swim to shore, but that would have set off all the alarms for MOB (man overboard). The ride in was short and sweet and the greeting by the locals was warm and not nearly as frantic and menacing as arriving in a Mexican port. The locals definitely wanted our business, but they were polite about it. After running the gauntlet on the cruise ship dock we walked around the small and clean downtown area of Georgetown. Plenty of shopping ... read more
