Ahoy Mates,
Day four and there are giant swells rolling in from a low pressure front all the way from Greenland. Really rocked to sleep last night. Loving it! Shipboard life falls into somewhat of a routine. Wake up at 6:15, coffee and juice delivered at 6:30, dress and out on deck for a couple of laps, return to a freshly made up cabin. The Times Digest is waiting and I always wonder why I read this as it is never good news. Shower, change and off to breakfast, to the Lido if I want to be alone or the dining room if I ready to chat. By then it is time for one of two lectures. My favorite so far was by a salvage expert, Captain Nixon, who explained how the Kurst, the Russian nuclear submarine, sank and everything surrounding her raising and towing into a dry dock in Murmansk. Extremely well done.
It was so cold in the show room that I went up on deck to warm in the sun. NOT. There was a strong breeze and no sun to speak of. Wandered the ship looking for a warm corner and finding none, returned to my stateroom for a HOT bath. Did that ever feel wonderful. I couldn't get the water hot enough.
Just dried off in time for Trivia. It was really tough and we scored 8 out of nineteen. The winning team scored 12. Sample for those playing along at home, What was declared a World Heritage Site in 2004? What is the most common animal (not insect) in the world? What is Frank Sinatra's epitaph? Then there is the second lecture.
Yesterday I missed lunch so I headed to the dinning room for tea. Now I warm inside and out. Had to beg for scones but worth the wait, Now it's a choice of a nap (score 1 day) or Happy Hour and Pub Trivia (score 2 days). Then change for dinner and enjoy the fare. Lovely prime r with a baked potato, so so corned beef, delicious liver with bacon, onions, spinach and a potato pancake, and wonderful veal with spatzle. I will try fish soon but seem to have developed an allergy. We'll see.
As is usual I skip the shows. Sorry that I missed the German Juggler. Everyone who saw the show said he was outstanding and hilarious. Last night was the Diva's and I'll bet there will be raves but I wanted to nest in a read.
I just looked up and saw a strange looking vessel on the horizon. Will try to attach a picture. Identification from any of my nautical friends appreciated.
So the days go. As I have said so many times, cruisers are fun people. Our dinner table is diverse and fun. There is Patty from Salt Lake, a beautiful and very bright woman, Eleanor a former teacher and real estate agent, Stuart with the bright blue eyes, a real estate developer in Canada, Mike with a quick wit and great smile who crosses the pond repeatedly because he loves sea day, Rosetta a librarian and a font of information, Bill, tall and distinguished, and Marge, a lady who has been widowed more than once and told us she will accept advances from suitable men but will not marry for tax purposes. So there we are, sharing adventure past and daily happenings.
Time to dress and get out on deck. More later.
