20th Jan Fraser Island Early start today pick up from the hostel was at 6:10am We visited a number of other hostels/hotels then went to the harbour and boarded the ferry which had a crossing time of 30 mins. On arrival we disembarked and was taken to the hotel resort where we were introduced to our guide and he boarded us onto our 4 wheel drive bus similar to the ones they use for the Africa overland trips. There were 32 of us on the bus. Fraser Island is the worlds largest sand island which is 123km long and 15km wide and is a listed world heritage site. The first place that we went to was Lake Mckenzie which is one of the many fresh water lakes, stopped for 45 mins and went swimming and had ... read more

First off, we have to thank everyone that came and rejoiced in the fact that we were finally pissing off to the other side of the world, and leaving you in peace!! Thank's for being so bloody happy about it!!.... Well, we did make it! Despite me loosing my passport just before we left Worcester, only to discover after a 2hr blind search & panic that it was actually in my back pocket... (yes i know!!). But I did find it and so of we went! That was when God decided to take matters into his own hands and started huffing and puffing like the big bad soddin' wolf! WIND? What was that all about!?! Talk about timing! 2 hours we were gridlocked on the m40 (I dont actualy know which motorway it was but its ... read more

Sadly I have got very behind with recording this section of the trip, so there now follows a summarized version of what we have done. My excuses for not having done any reportage is that we have been having far too much fun, and Eden now has the stamina to keep going through to 9:00 in the evening, which doesn't leave enough time to drink heavily and update this. So something had to give. Lakes Entrance 2 nights 5 / 6 Jan Hot. Campsite pretty dusty. Smoke from the forest fires dropping soot over us. Did the long walk to the beach (it would have been a lot shorter to go down the main road). Richard got some orange Crocs to stop him wingeing whenever he had to walk anywhere. Mallacoota 1 nights 7 Jan Cool. ... read more

Christmas really didn't feel like xmas this year mainly due to the lack of snow and +18 temperature we had here, though that is the coldest recorded xmas day Melbourne has ever had. I think it also had to do with the fact that xmas decorations were few and far between so it never had that Christmas feeling in the air. I found it quite odd walking around town and catching a xmas song coming from a store dealing with snow since they never get it here. Chrismas Eve was a big night out for a few of us. Most of the germans here celebrate on xmas eve so we all went out to the bar to celebrate with them. This is the first year I haven't been home to celebrate with the family and I ... read more

After a pretty smooth flight, where i actually managed to catch quite a bit of sleep, I am finally here, Sydney, Australia, city of the famous Opera house, the harbor bridge and kangaroo steaks. :-) Wow, what a first day. After arriving early at 7:15 am I caught the shuttle to check into my new home, the Blue Parrot Backpacker in Kings Cross, Sydney. After getting to know my new roomates, taking a shower, and changing into tevas, shorts and a tan-top (it is truely summer here, about 88 F or 28 C), it was off to explore the city. In a nutshell, I managed to see the beautiful Botanical Gardens on my way to the harbor, and came upon the breathtaking view of the bridge and the opera house upon exiting the Garden. WOW, just ... read more

Hi, I am now in Rowville, Victoria at John and Margarets. Natalie was at Melbourne airport with her eldest son Aaron to collect us on Friday and bring us here. It was lovely meeting Natalie again, she is slightly larger in size than when we last saw her as she is only 7 weeks away from giving birth to her third child but other than that she still looks the same. John is very well at the moment, although he is slower and obviously not as fit as he used to be, he is managing to get around and still has his great sense of humour. Margaret hasn't changed at all, she is still very busy, chatty and always doing things for everyone, I hope that we don't exhaust her too quickly by being here. We ... read more
