Day 3 we took the trip up to The Sandy Cape light house. We were all very excited about this as it is the only part of the island that we hadn't been to yet. The drive up there involved negotiating some rocks which was slow going but we made it through without any dramas. It took us about an hour to reach Sandy Cape.
It is just beautiful up this end of the island and is now without doubt my favorite spot on the island. The water is more protected so it's nice and calm for the kids and the beach is just huge with beautiful clean sand and clear water. We saw dolphins diving in the water on our way back.
The walk up to the lighthouse is VERY steep but manageable even for the kids. There are also some world war 2 bunkers and early pioneer graves to explore.
Day 4 we took a run over to Lake Mackenzie. This was a VERY long drive and not one that we would normally do but Monica, Sonia, Cooper and Jamie hadn't been there before so we thought it would be nice for them to see it.
Group photo
Got someone on the beach to take this group photo before we started the climb up to the light house. It has been a few years since we went there and boy has it changed. New facilities have been built to cater for an increase in tourism and there is not as much beach area as there use to be. Still it's great to see so many international tourists enjoying the beauty of the island.
It was on the way back from Lake Mackenzie that Darren first noticed that he was having some car issues. The car appeared to be struggling for power- water in the fuel perhaps?
