Murphy’s Law that the red light
on the toilet came on last night so first thing it was a trip to the dump point
about 1km away on the Windorah
Road.

It seems the entire camp had a
slow start to the day as there was not a great deal of movement. Then, as the morning lengthened, we could see
legs under vans or cars looking for or repairing any damage from their
journey. There were brooms and brushes
sweeping out any accumulated dust, mid-morning cups of tea and coffee were
consumed, people walking dogs and children riding pushbikes or cracking
whips. The village had come to life.

As with previous days, the sky
was blue with no hint of cloud and whilst there was a fair wind blowing the
temperature was in the low 20’s.

Across the Birdsville/Windorah Roadthere is another
section of free camping – we think it is still referred to as The Common – with
a track that leads to Pelican Point on the Diamantina River. My gosh, the water it is carrying just
now! The Diamantina runs for 900kms
(560miles) with its mouth at the Warburton
River flowing in a south westerly
direction along the eastern side of the Simpson Desert. It then drains into Lake Eyre (northernSouth Australia).
