WHY IN THIS ORDER?

I found that many of the tour operators prefer to take you on the trek starting at Kokoda then walk back to Moresby in southerly direction. The reason I planned the trip traveling north is that we are there for the Australian military perspective. This is the direction that the ANZACs walked to confront the Japanese invaders. So we are literally walking in the footsteps of heros. (I guess if you did it in reverse then you would see things from the Japanese perspective)

Chockos defended Kokoda trail from the north to south
Big Al , The regular army always comes in late once the real fighting has been done by the citizen soldiers who get off their ass and get it done . 10 guys ambushing 10,000 Japanese regular army / marines troops takes great big balls !! When you are a long way from any “ regular Army “ help . Respectfully walking tours should start from Gonna Beach from where the 1 at contact was and back along the track through Kokoda to Japanese ladder . Eg where Australian artillery entered the conflict and it became a fair fight . Once that happened the Japanese never took another forward step . Of course The Regular Australian army sat around at Owens corner for 2 days before they wondered forward to see what was going on . But Brig Pots and the Army reserve/ chockos had already Brocken the Japanese offences back !! God bless the chocos!! What you should be saying big Al is the Engineers put some stairs , dunnies and a “ zip line” in from “ Base camp for recreational use !! That should not be the focus of a tour on Kokoda. Respect the chocos who fought it . Not the REMFs who came along at the end . Ps . I’ve walked it 3 x times tough guys . So giddy up Big Al !! Haha Cheers mate Mack “ choco “ McCormack Senior Instructor SASR ( Retired) Read it and weep Al . Ps - I and others had to carry big Al out of PNG for emergency exfil to hospital. Something about “ Blown a Heartlage “ haha Cheers mate
