Ahah back to New Zealand then. I thought i'd seen the best scenery i will ever see once i'd returned ffom Fiji but i was dead wrong. The South Island especially Fiordland and Otago is stunning!!. I met up with my friend Clarke (from Berri)up in christchurch and we caught the bus down to Queenstown. Our jaws were scraping the bus floor for most of the journey. We literally could'nt believe some of the sights that we passed by the that bus. Towering snow capped mountains that went on over the horizon with large mint coloured lakes at the base, the colours were staggering and contrasting, amazing stuff. Queenstown is awesome, a little town surrounded by mountains quite fittingly named the remarkables. With people jumping off the peak of the gondola all day it makes for ... read more

Evening all, and hope you are well. Its been an eventful couple of weeks, mostly for all the wrong reasons. I’ve been travelling round New Zealand and have a number of scrapes to tell you about. Banks Peninsula My first stop was a small town called Akaroa near Christchurch on a piece of land called the banks peninsula. The peninsula is a big semi circle of mountains with a large sea inlet running up the middle of them. So I get there at about 3pm… go for a quick bike ride up on of the big hills so I can get a good view of the place.. and it starts pissing down. I took shelter under a tin roof at a lookout poiint while a huge storm passed over which involved hail, fork lighting (only about ... read more

Howzitgoin, eh? If you're feeling Christmassy then goodonya. Right, that's enough kiwi talk. I know we've been slack and not updated this for a while but we've been too busy (and having too much fun) to spend a lot of time in net cafes. Anyway, on with the story of New Zealand... After Rotorua, we headed for Waitomo. The lure? Obviously the Shearing Shed. In NZ you have to go to a shearing, so we went to see animals being shorn. A rabbit to be exact. By the end it was no longer a fluffy bunny, but still cute. We also visited the caves which involved abseiling into the stream where we collected our tubes for the blackwater rafting through underground tunnels lit by thousands of glowworms. It looked like a clear night with blue stars. ... read more

Evening all. Firstly, I would like to thank Matt Grest of Veronica Moser technologies© for implementing a new gallery system to deliver pictures of my varying escapades to you lucky people. The new system lives at : www.steveshinn.plus.com The navigation system is pretty obvious, but for PlusNet’s Content and design team heres some detailed instructions… 1.Turn on the computer….2… login into windows 3… oh, how I do make myself laugh. So.. I’ve got to NZ and I’ve been in Christchurch for a week. Due to the realisation that I have become horizontally challenged over the last couple of months due to excess beer consumption, I have decided to do some damn exercise. What else is New Zealand good for but Mountain Biking!! - It’s a myriad of trails, mountains, rivers, lakes, more mountains and forests. I’ve ... read more

Hi All Arrived in Nelson on Tuesday pm after almost 3 days of rain as we travelled up the west coast. Stayed in Franz Josef Sunday night hoping for weather change Monday but by 9am it was still v cloudy over the mountains and no flights we going. Decided to move on up the coast to Westport - a long day driving but not a lot to see on the way if the weather's poor. Apparently the views are great over the mountains when the weather's fine. Stopped for 2 hours at Hokatiki to se the kiwis in an artificial nocturnal setting in a small eco nature place. Great to see them and almost impossible to see them in the wild. Nothing much to see at Westport but went out to Foulwind Point - very appropriate ... read more

Hi all Travelled over the Haast Pass from Wanaka to Fox Glacier yesterday. Wanaka very nice along the lake front - sat out and had a coffee and would have been nice to sit and relax there for a day but had to move on. Driving times are longer than you would expect despite very little traffic on roads but winding roads and lots of stops to look at views all take time. Arrived at Haast on West Coast at about 2pm and it started raining as we pulled into the local tourist office and has rained almost non-stop since. planned a flight over glaciers and alps for today but have rescheduled for 08.30 tomorrow if weather ok. If not we'll press on up the west coast and have to come back to do the flight ... read more

Hello all Comtinuing to have a great time. Weather remains good with lots of sun and very little rain. It's been quite a busy 3 days since the last entry. We moved on from Dunedin and headed south towards Te Anau. Took a detour of about 100km from Balclutha when we went to see the wildlife around Nugget Point and Surat Bay. Not much at the former except seals swimming below the cliffs but at Surat we met up - almost literally - with the sealions. We went for a walk on the grassy track behind the beach and could see a female sealion on the sand about 10m away. Whilst quietly watching it flick sand over itself to keep cool in the sun Joan saw a bull sealion heading for the beach. It came out ... read more

Hello all Had a good journey down from C'church to Dunedin vie Oamaru. Set off late from C'church due to delays with campervan so stopped a night in Oamaru. went to see the yellow eye penguins on the way but could only see them from about 100m away on the beach. Stopped for lunch on the beach and saw these boulders - amazing geological phenomenon. Called in at Shag Point and spotted several fur seals on the rocks. Arrived Dunedin Sunday and went out to Otago peninsula ( went along the Highcliffe Rd to get there - sheer drops and tight bends but great views if you could bear to look - the driver couldn't and the passenger wouldn't and wanted to get out and walk - not fot the fainthearted!! ) to see the yellow ... read more
