De Havilland Vampire
De Havilland VampireSome of you may know that I have a passion for vintage aircraft, in my early twenties I had my Private Pilots Licence, but that lapsed after I got married and was no longer able to afford to fly and pay a mortgage at the same time. I can still recall my Dad taking us to the Airshows at the RNZAF Airbase at Ohakea near Palmerston North, this was in the 60's - 70's and I recall that one of the first jet aircraft that the RNZAF had was a De Havilland Vampire, this was where I first saw the Vampire. Well today I have seen it again the first time since those Ohakea Airshows, not bad for an aircraft that was first flown by the RAF in 1946, almost 62 years later and still a crowd pleaser. Unfortunately the weather for the Airshow on Saturday was cold it felt like the wind was coming off snow, both Sheryll and I had 4 layers of clothes on almost all of the day. It wasn't till late into the afternoon that it warmed up. The skies were cloudy but didn't deter from being able to take photographs. I wont try to blog

De Havilland Vampire the whole day, just suffice to say that I had a great time, Sheryll thoroughly enjoyed the day as well which is not bad for someone who is not that keen on boarding an aircraft. Please enjoy the photographs

i would really like to have a flight in one of these magnificient aircraft. do you ever come to the Manawatu region and if so how could I get to have a flight? i think the photograph is fantastic i would like to go to Wanaka one of these years to view the warbirds.
