Hello Friends, Family and fellow Bloggers,
We woke up to a nightmare!! We had a parking ticket on our van!! It said there was no freedom camping in Queenstown and we had been issued a $200 fine!!! We were raging mad as we looked all over for signs on the road and even asked a local if it was ok!!
IF YOU COME HERE DO NOT PARK ANYWHERE OTHER THAN A PAID SITE!!!
We walked down to the police station; they told us we had to go to the council office to query it!! I worked out we were 10 meters in the no parking zone and there was a sign 20km away in Frankton that there was not freedom parking in Queenstown!! I could not believe it she said it would cost too much money to put up signs. (Really, or is it because they make more money not putting signs up!!) The lady from the Council said that you could park where we did day or night for free but no one can be inside the vehicle (WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE!!!)
We had to pay the fine
and this put us in a bad mood!!
We decide to carry on and do the Trig walk up to the Coronet Peak as planned. The walk up was really good, very steep so you need good fitness to get up!! This walk is not the best signposted walk so be careful on the paths, as there are a lot of bike paths as well!!
We eventually got to the top and the views were amazing!!! There is a complex at the top, which has shops, food and best of all Luging!!! Vick didn’t want to do it but I was excited to try. So she took the photos.
Luging is going down hill in a cart fast!!! I had to go on the slow one as everyone doing there first ride of the day has to!!! It was so much fun I overtook about 6 people (your not meant to but they were way too slow). The weather was also really good today so we had excellent views over Queenstown.
After a load of pictures we headed down back into town via the Trig walk again. (getting
down took half the time getting up, but was more slippery and dangerous poor Vick ended up on her bum once L !!!)
Once down we hit a few shops looking for a pair of walking shoes for Vick as her trainers sprung a leak and a very big hole in the side!! We found none in her price range so instead looked for the 2 art museums; these are not the same name as the 2012 Lonely Planet but still in the same place and great little galleries!! We also found the oldest house in Queenstown, but was not sign posted so we think we saw the right place!!!
After a while we both were hungry so we headed to the world famous Fregburger!!! Everyone had said to go here and we were not disappointed!! I had the big one and Vick a cheeseburger with blue cheese, both amazing and huge!!! So glad we went!!
We headed back to the van after and made our way to Te Anua. The way around was long, as you had to go back on yourself. Our final destination was Milford sound but that
was our plan for the next day. After a long drive we got to Te Anua, filled up the van with water, emptied out the waste and fueled up!!
We drove to Walnut Creek, a place, which allowed freedom parking, it was $6 for the night, this is really cheap and we could relax knowing that it was a place where we could park and at a fair price. We parked up, cooked dinner and watched an episode of spooks before bed.
Love N&V X
