After the previous day's calamities on the slopes, the activity of choice for our final full day was rather more sedate. A trip out to nearby Arrowtown for some historical action didn't really spark the interest of the girls but it was a lovely little village that would keep the rich tourists happy. The remnants of the Chinese settlement was rather forlorn looking but it provides an insight into the harsh conditions faced by the gold seekers. Our little blue cabin in the caravan park looks positively luxurious compared to the small huts hanging on the edge of the hill. Overcast skies but mild, we spent an hour or two traipsing around. In the afternoon, I took the girls ice skating. With a morbid fear of falling over, Eleanor took a while to look a little ... read more

Waking to a gorgeous sunny morning, New Zealand breakfast television obsessed by the All Blacks and a shower that Dean christened 'the tattoo remover', I was looking forward to exploring the town. We spent the day wandering around and the girls stalking some Brisbane you-tuber. It was a truly magnificent day weather-wise and the forecast looked good for the next few days. Queenstown offers lots of adventure activities and we decided that skiing would be the major one. However, we wanted the girls to try some other things too. Having experienced 'Escape Rooms' in KL and Melbourne, we thought we could try the one here. It certainly challenged us and if we hadn't been given lots of hints, we'd probably still be locked in the study with the revolver waiting for Colonel Mustard. Our second full ... read more

Despite yesterday's foray into the black and gold world of the 'Pak n Save', we were missing a few items (vegemite needs butter) so after a quick trip into a nearby convenience store (basically like buying stuff in a Bright 7/11), a leisurely breakfast followed. Once we did the requisite photo stops by the lake, the church and atop Mt John and then we were on our way to Queenstown via Mt Cook. Unlike driving anywhere near a hill in Australia, the roads weren't vomit-inducing. Fantastic scenery, driving conditions and a few local radio stations providing the soundtrack meant the journey was very easy. Overcast and a little chilly, we rugged up in preparation for our three hour hike along the Hooker Valley trail. We scoffed our hastily prepared lunch in front of the Visitor Centre, ... read more

I'm back for another post and I must admit, I am a changed man since my last one. While I haven't figured out how to stop my ever-receding hairline from further depleting I have checked the box on my bucket list for bungy (bungee) jumping. Not only that, I bungy'd off the tallest bungy attraction in the whole of New Zealand and Australia. More on this further down - but first I must bring you up to speed on the things that happened since my last post including the aforementioned moment of dare develish glory. One of the other secondees Ryan (who happens to be one of the happiest and most energetic people on this planet) proposed every Wednesday that our group get together for Winesday. Winesday requires each attendee to bring a bottle of wine ... read more

Hello Everyone, Woke up and had great egg and bacon sandwich, we’ve not had one in ages so went down so really well!! Today our plan was to get to Queenstown we went the long way to go to the wineries (this added about 2 hours on the journey). We went to Aurum first – wine was good cheese platter was better; then to Quartz Reef - there Brut wine was amazing; George town was very good, their Rieslings were the best, and Pinot Noir was great, lastly went to Peregrine, we had the most amazing 2013 Sauvignon Blanc- so good!!!! I really enjoyed the tasting, unfortunately for Vick who was driving just got to do the sniffing haha. We met another couple who we kept bumping into at the vineyards, it was nice chatting as ... read more

I first want to thank you for the nomination for Blogger of the Week. What an honor! It really touched my heart, realizing other people enjoy reading my words, especially since they are very personal. This is a difficult spiritual journey and I appreciate you coming along with me. Thank you for your support and encouragement. It means the world! Soul's Landscape The moment when it clicks, when that one stone comes loose and the avalanche starts, but instead of crashing down and destroying everything in its path, it all falls into place and as the dust clears, sun shines down on a much different scene than before and it looks something like clarity. I have a certain knowing. Now I want sight. -Rumi, "What I See In Your Eyes" Time in the South Island can ... read more

Long, long, long day. 7 hour coach ride fom Queenstown to Milford Sound on the west coast. No straight way to get there. Lots of stops, but finally made it. Onto a boat that took us up the fjords and out into the Tasman Sea. Saw an albatross, some fur seals and a lot of waterfalls. It was really quite cold, so I contented myself with sitting indoors throughout most of the day. Did not help that I ended up with some strange allergies in Rotorua and I hqve been suffering with stuffiness and a nasty cough. Worse when I laugh. One of the other ladies said she had the same thing before she left home. Hope it disappears before my flights home. All we did when we got back to the hotel was go to ... read more

Queenstown what a city, it's definitely our favourite town so far. We love it, it has everything for everyone here. If you are an adrenalin junkie then you would be hard pushed not to find something every day of the week to get your heart pulsing. There is skydiving, bungy jumping, jet boating, rafting, mountain biking, paragliding after all that there is tramping, horse riding, quad bikes, boat trips and of course in the winter months there is skiing, the list is endless. If you have any money left after doing all these and your pockets are very deep then there are helicopter, hot air balloon trips and plane rides so that you can take in all the vistas. Amongst all these activites is a town with a real buzz to it. There are some lovely ... read more

Hi readers, cub reporter here again for a half time report. Amazingly we are already six months into our tour and I cannot believe how quickly it has gone. Of course we have missed family and friends but modern communication methods like Skype , FaceTime ,facebook etc have made us feel like we have been able to be with you and to be able to share our excitement and experiences with you. Whilst every new day seems to offer us yet another high we have talked about what we see as our most memorable events. Once we began the process the list seemed endless, a reflection on how fantastic a journey this has been and continues to be. So in an attempt to condense the list we have broken it down into the three countries we ... read more
