Going upside down was so fun!!
On our first morning in Queenstown we jumped right into the adventure with zip lining! The weather was beautiful and we had a great view of the town and landscapes on the gondola ride up to the top of the mountain. The tour included 6 zip lines that scaled their way down the mountain through the trees.

The first platform was where they gave us instructions and strapped us in. The line was relatively short and slow so that everyone could see how comfortable he or she was with zip lining. I had never been zip lining before and it was such a cool experience! It wasn’t scary at all and it felt like I was just gliding through the trees

On the next line they showed us how to flip upside down. I love that kind of stuff so I zipped upside down on most of the next lines! They also offered a trust fall where we leaned off of the edge with our eyes closed and didn’t fall until they released us. On one of the lines had a really gorgeous view of the mountains through the treetops. I managed to get a video of that whole

zip too! I’ll try to put it up on Facebook.

The last couple lines were the longest and steepest. When I was upside down I didn’t even realize how fast I was going until I flipped upright and saw the trees wiz past me. Zip lining was so fun and I know that I’ll never forget the views of New Zealand! We were really lucky with the weather too because it started raining right as our tour ended.

That night we wanted to go out and explore the Queenstown nightlife. We signed up for a bar crawl that toured 6 bars in the area. It was only $35 and we got a free drink at each bar and a surprise tee shirt at the end!

We showed up too early for the crawl because we weren’t sure when it started and didn’t want to be late. It was a bit awkward at first but then we made friends with the tour guides and a couple other people that ended up buying us drinks for the rest of the tour! Definitely worth it to start early.

The first stop was an ice bar called Below Zero. We

were given big jackets and mittens before even going in because every single thing was made of ice: cups, benches, tables, decorations, etc. There was even an ice hockey table…entirely made of ice. It was also really cool because you’re only allowed 20 mins inside (to stop you from freezing) so we had the whole bar to ourselves! You know what that means: a million pictures in every possible spot!

After the ice bar we went to a bunch of other regular bars that were surprisingly busy for such a small town. At one of them we even ran into our zip lining tour guide who was the dj for the night! We grabbed a late night bite to eat at Fergburger, the famous burger joint of Queenstown, and then crashed back at the hostel. What a perfect day/night!!

The next morning Bird and Leah flew to Auckland to visit Bird’s cousin who lives there. We stayed behind in Queenstown and lounged, looked at more shops, then cooked stir-fry at the hostel. We stayed in that night because we didn’t want to ruin the perfect streak of luck that we had during the entire break. Good thing we

didn’t want to go out because it ended up pouring rain all night long!

Leaving Queenstown was the most bittersweet feeling. I was excited for the North Island portion of the semester but didn’t want the break to be over. I can confidently say that those were the best 10 days of my life!!
