Finally on Day 28 we were able to sleep in as long as we wanted as we had one more day in Queenstown with no plans. We took the day to walk around the town and see what we hadn't gotten to see yet. We wanted to ride up the Gondola but after finding out it was 23NZD per person to ride up we decided our view from our hostel was good enough.
We walked around the Queenstown Gardens, enjoyed our books on a bench by the lake, ate Fergburger for a late lunch/early dinner and chilled at the hostel the rest of the evening.
We departed Queenstown around 8:30am on Tues, Feb 16th heading for Christchurch, our final destination in NZ. The bus ride was over 500km that day and we didn't arrive into Christchurch until 4:30pm. The bus stopped a few different locations for a quick breakfast stop in Cromwell, bathroom break about 2.5 hours later, a few picture stops, food stop in Geraldine and ended in Christchurch.
Once in Christchurch we went to the info center to figure our where our hostel was that we booked the day before. Oh really it is only about
Fergburger 2
Look at the size of this burger a 30 minute bus ride out of the city center in the opposite direction of the airport, GREAT!!! Since our flight was at 6:35am that meant the shuttle needed to pick us up at 4am in order to make our flight in time. Oh Well it was the last night of vacation and we were pretty exhausted by this point. Good thing it was quiet, cheap and had FREE Wi-Fi, only 48NZD for a double room=$34USD.
The hostel was in the New Brighton section of Christchurch which was by the beach. The town was shut down except for Subway and an Indian restaurant, so we had Indian food one more time as it is becoming our 2nd favorite food behind Mexican.
Our alarm went off at 3:40am as we needed to be down ready for the shuttle by 3:50am. We walked outside the hostel and our shuttle was waiting for us. Then we made 4 more stops picking up 8 others before we headed to the airport. Our flight from Christchurch to Sydney was fine as Pete and I both slept part of the way since it was so early and we were tired. It was only about
a 3 hour flight.
We arrived into Sydney around 8am and our flight to Hong Kong left at 12pm. It was a good amount of time to eat some breakfast look at the shops and relax before our 9 hour flight started.
We love Qantas airlines but hate their partner JetStar. JetStar had bad customer service, cramped leg room, you had to pay for everything extra even on an international flight and didn't transfer our luggage to Qantas so we had to go through customs, get our luggage and re checkin. Qantas has great food, snacks and On Demand movies for the whole flight 2 thumbs up for Qantas.
We arrived into Hong Kong around 6pm and were exhausted as we just gained 5 hours in time difference and had been traveling all day. We found a hostel in Causeway Bay Hong Kong Island and crashed for the night and welcomed back the Free Wi-Fi that we are so accustomed to in HK and SE Asia.
