We have been looking forward for Queenstown for quite a while because we are here for a week and can have lie ins and take it easy. My first impression was that it reminded me of a french skiing resort. Ski season starts on the 7th of June so lots of preparation is going on around the town.
We hadn't been out in a major town for a while so all 50 of us on the bus had arranged for a great night in the clubs of Queenstown. It was probably one of the best nights out this gap year as everyone gets on so well and are up for a great laugh. We finished the night by having a fergburger, these burgers worldwide famous and are meant to be the biggest burgers in the world..they were tasty!
On June 1st we decided we were going to attempt to play frisbee golf. The aim is to take as little throws as possible and throw it into a cage by avoiding obstacles. we all teamed up me and Nick vs Rick Morgan, Muc and Caz , Kain and Judy. It was great fun especailly when Nick fell in a compost
heap whilst throwing the frisbee. Also was the fist time my injured arm didnt hurt whilst playing sport. We all then went for fish and chips on the peer followed by hitting the ice skating rink. The ice rink was great fun me and Muc picked it up quite quickly and were timing ourselves doing laps as we were the only ones on the ice. The girls were slowly picking it up but think I knocked Morgans confidence when accidently caused her to fall in to the fence..oops. We all fell over but Nick definatly had the best fall and it was caught on video.
On Monday 2nd we had an action packed day. We had booked a package of activities which involved jet boating, helicopter ride, gondal ride and luging. We started off with jet boating..this was soo fun we got drenched, was a good cure for a few people that were hungover. Enjoyed it more than the one in Westport as it was faster, and the driver made some very risky manouvers. We all dried off and were put in groups to ride the helicopter. It flew over the mountains overlooking Queentown including the bungee jump stages
and the Lake. There were some amazing views but the pilot was a bit boring and wouldnt do any extreme moves. When we landed we found a shop which sold free samples of grey face cream and smeared it all over our faces so we looked like warriors. We then qued up for the luge, our last activity of the day which was a track down the mountain set up to race go carts down. There was a big group of us so we had some crazy fast races. The track was soo fast that one girl (typical) fell of the track twice and covered in mud. Us guys however took the corners very well and it was a very competative afternoon, getting quite heated at some points. Some great pictures were taken through the finish line.
On Wednesday 4th we had signed up for yet another skydive however this one was from 15000 feet! We all paired up for the jump me and Nick, Rick and Ross and Kain and Judy. We harnessed up and jumped into the plane..this one appeared safer than the last sky dive plane in Franz Joseph. As we rose my ears popped and
my stomach started to feel slightly queasy. However the views were excellent once again especailly as we could see where the Lord of the Rings series were filmed. We had paid for a camera man as well how was constantly snapping and videoing me on the way up. The time came for Nick to jump and the door slid open and wind gushed in..one blink of an eye and he was gone. I was shoved over the edge and the camera man acrobatically jumped on to the wing to get a great shot of my terrified face as I jumped. I was flying 60 seconds of free fall, hurtling towards the ground, my jumper was spinning me extremely fast. Everytime my mouth opened my cheeks would wobble uncontrolably and mouth would go very dry. My video man was flying around me with ease hi fiving me and gliding above and below me. Slight relief hit when he parachute opened and I was twirling towards the ground for the next 5 minutes taking in the views Queenstown has to offer, the lake was classic, surrounded by the mountains.
We met the others on the ground who were adrenelin pumped; especially
Judy, our friend, who lost a game of rock paper scissors and the skydive was the forfeit.
In the afternoon we decided to play a game of mini golf. We all paired up and we were off. Me and Kain were paired together and we were pretty shocking at the game; I managed to knock it out the boundaries twice! It was a funny afternoon and Rick ended up winning.
Overall Queenstown has got to be my favourite place in New zealand and I could see myself staying for weeks especailly during the ski season!
