We decided to jump off the Magic Bus in Wanaka for a couple of nights en route to Queenstown. Once again we were overwhelmed by it's natural beauty. Wanaka is a small town that during the winter months becomes a very popular ski/snowboarding resort. During our couple of days in Wanaka, it became really, really cold! We weren't particularly well prepared for this with just one jumper and pair of jeans each! BRRRR! The icy weather didn'us off too much though, and we climbed up Mount Iron to look out over Wanaka. Despite nearly being blown away at the top, it was another stunning view.
Another must-do activity in Wanaka is 'Puzzling World', which boasts 'The Great Maze' and four different 'Illusion Rooms'. We spent a very amusing hour and a half chasing each other around the maze. We won't mention how hopelessy lost Luke got!! One of the 'Illusion Rooms' demonstrates the sneaky tricks used in 'Lord of the Rings' when filming scenes with both Hobbits and 'normal' sized people! There is also a very weird room where the floor is at a really steep angle, but everything else is horizontal. Check out the pictures because it's very difficult

That's right, we're watching you... to explain!
So we headed to Queenstown where it got colder by the second. We spent the first day on a trip to Milford Sound, which is a 600km round trip from Queenstown. During the long bus journey, we went through rain, sleet and snow, but by the time we arrived the sun had come out and We had some awesome weather for our boat cruise through Milford Sound. The highlight was seeing loads of dophins who hung around for quite a while and did a few party tricks for us! After a long day on bus, we hit Queentown's nightlife and went for cocktails at The World Bar, which are served in teapots! It was hilarious watching loads of trendy lads strutting their stuff on the dance floor with a teapot in hand! If only they could have seen themselves!
The next day we headed up to the Queenstown Skyline on the Gondola, which is a strange name for a cable car. Aside from another awesome view, the main reason to go on the Gondola is so you can race down the hill on a luge! After doing the compulsory scenic route, we tested out the advanced

In the illusion rooms! track 'Wacky Races'-style! Hours of fun! All this excitement was rewarded with the most incredible burger from the legendary 'Fergburger'! Although we have yet to test out 'Burger Fuel' (thanks for the recommendation Nic!).
The icy cold weather passed and once again we're back in short sleeves! We have just walked up Queenstown Hill which was a 3-hour round trip and was generally pretty steep. As we panted our way to the summit we were met by a lovely old Aussie man with a walking stick. We tried to say hello but were too busy trying to breathe, whereas he looked as if he hadn't even broken a sweat!
