The next days after my birthday Logan and spent going to an exhibition called WOW (World of Wearable Art) and driving to Motueka, which is a town not far away from Nelson, to enjoy one of these wonderful sunsets that you can appreciate every evening up here. Also we went for a hike but unfortunately we didn't make it to the top because I had a very bad headache and the weather forecast was rain and thunder. Furthermore we went kayaking in Abel Tasman, where we saw seals on the rocks, who were even swimming around our kayak, AMAZING! To end this perfect day we dediced to spoil ourselves with fish&chips in a fancy restaurant. The 2th December we went to a market in Nelson, where I tried a traditional fried bread from Maoris. The rest of the day we were simply exploring the city and enjoying the lovely weather on the beach. That became actually our afternoon/night activity as we spent the whole evening there talking about everything and nothing. At some point we decided to go to bed and Logan had the brilliant idea to push the frontseats forwards so that we would have more space for our feet.
GENUIS, still can't believe that this idea didn't come to our minds earlier... Well at least we had one restful night. The 3th December was actually very sad because it was time to say goodbye to Logan since he had to go back to Cromwell because his job would start very soon... So yeah after I drew him a sign for his first destination Christchurch it was getting serious and he left me.
The next day, I was still sad because of the previous day which implied that I was lost and I didn't know if I should travel or look for a job. I went to Nelsons beach where I had time to think about it. I found out that the best would be to travel a bit on my own so that's what I did: In the late afternoon I drove up to Tasman where I stayed on a camping ground next to the sea. I got to know a guy from Ireland called Bryan. He shared beer with me which made that evening better. That night the moon was as big as it was the last time 68 years ago. So we were very excited about this.
The day after I did the Takaka hill walkway. I went to the Rawhiti Cave, which was a bit of a mission as the hike was steep and the sunny weather didn't make it easier, and to the Grove, which is a small loop with interesting rock formations. There I got to know Philip with whom I spent the afternoon going for a swim next to the Wanui falls. Sleeping at the hangdog camp, which is actually a campground for climbers, I felt like that could be a new sport for me. Anyway, the 6th December I saw the Waikoropupu springs, which are some of the cleanest waters in the world. Furthermore I did the Hydro Walk and last but not least the Knuckle Hill Track, which was so far one of my most favorite hikes. Oh and I forgot to mention that for my birthday a friend of mine gave me letters that I can open on special dates. The first date was on my birthday and yeah the second was on the 6th December as in Luxembourg it's an official holiday called Santa Klaus. I was happy to open that letter as it reminded me of my home.
So thank you for that Vicky!
The day after I went to the Pillar point, to the Wharariki Beach, which is well-known as it is the cover picture of Windows10, and to the Cap Farewell. When I arrived, I met a French team that was getting ready to walk on a highline that was fixed over a gorge. That was so exciting that it became part of my day activity:D At some point I met a guy called Peter that I met the day before when I did the Inlett track. I was struggling to decide if I should stay with this French team or go with him to go to the Spit Track. I decided to be productive and it was definitely worth as the sand dunes were something different and special. I liked it very much as I had the impression to be in a desert. That evening I slept on a small campground, where I got to know a lovely couple from the U.K. At some point the owner came out and told us that there was a strong earthquake but no-one felt it except one guy that came out of his house and asked if
we felt it. I actually really would like to feel an earthquake just to get an impression of what it feels like. Anyway, the day after I went for a day loop, which is part of the Great Walk in Abel Tasman. The track wasn't that exhausting and accordingly was the view from the top. However the walk next to the sea was beautiful!
Now I'm back to Nelson where I survived my first woofing day in a hostel. So my next challenge is to find a second job so I can earn some money to travel again.
