Now handing back over to the others to update the diary.........

On our last day on the south island we did a few things.

First we had to pack up all our stuff, which mum did while we helped by surfing the internet.

Then with the car loaded for the last time, we set off to look at a salmon farm.
They had big pools with salmon in. One had 35,000 baby salmon, and another one had 8,000 grown salmon.
They also had a lake where you could fish for salmon for free, you just paid for the salmon you caught. However we were flying on a plane later that day so decided it wouldn't be good to get on the aircraft with a dozen salmon in our pockets.

While we were walking around the lake we met a family who were fishing, and we stopped to watch, and when they caught one we helped land the fish and sort it out. They said we could have a go and they'd take any fish we caught. Simon caught a fish, but it managed to get off the hook before we got it to land. Rachel then managed to hook one and this one we did manage to land. After that we left, smelling rather of fish anyway, despite out best efforts!

We then drove back over the mountains and called in at a cave on the way, which we explored with a guide. Inside were a lot of stalactites and stalagmites, and the bones of some now extinct moas, that fell into the cave and got stuck.

Then we went on back to Nelson, passing lots of wine growing regions, and dropped the car off and got onto a small propeller plane, that flew up to Rotorua, stopping at Wellington on the way. While we were at Wellington we were the only people still on the plane, and got a chance to go up into the cockpit and chat with the pilot.

Hi
the fishing looks good - shame you could not keep the fish. Its chucking it down with rain here - a big thunderstorm last night. Yesterday was fine and Geoff had his final neuroscience teaching comittee in the Queen Vic in Beeston in their outside section with the trains going by every 10mins, not a great location but the lunch was good. Not sure where you are of to next but hope you have a good time All the best Peter
