King Theoden's sword (Herugrim) Ello All
We arrived in Christchurch at around 4 on Friday. The temperature difference was noted straight away, it is freezing!! Nice and sunny but much colder than Australia, we have had to ditch the shorts and go for jeans and hoodies, booh!! The air feels crisp and fresh which is lovely!
We got a bus from the airport to the city centre. Christchurch itself is very very British looking. It is lovely, very nice, and safe and everyone is chillaxed to the max. Not going to go into Christchurch too much as we are going to go out and get photos tomorrow, so will do a separate Christchurch blog.
We booked in advance a Lord of the Rings tour to Edoras and the plains of Rohan. It was fecking excellent! I am just at the part in the book where the Riders of Rohan leave Edoras to aid the city of Gondor. So it was well exciting. The area we went to was were the Great Golden Hall stood and the plain were Legolas, Gandalf, Gimli and Aragorn ride to see King Theoden. It took 6 months to construct Edoras, 3 weeks to film all the shots,

We stopped here on the way, can't for my life remember what it was called - but it looks nice! then it was dismantled and the land was return back to normal.
The day started with this big 6 wheel truck (with number plate edora5) picking us up form our hotel at 9. He drove round Christchurch, and then we headed toward the Alps. Edoras is amongst the foothills of the Alps. On the way we stopped at some beautiful tourist spots and got some great pics.
Edoras is pretty remote, so our driver had to do some off road driving, which was excellent - he had to cross a deep stream which was pretty cool! We had some replica weapons - Gimli’s axe, King Theoden’s sword (Herugrim), Borromir’s sword and Anduril (Argorn’s sword). We all got a shot with them, although I had to carry the axe across the plain and up the hill - so I felt I had a rough deal. Thank god I wasn’t chasing orcs or fighting em! There was also an authentic flag from the movie - cool!
After we had posed with all the weapons, we headed for a champagne picnic - champagne, egg and ham sandwich and chocolate cake - excellent food for a hobbit. It was at 15.30
though so a little late for lunch, a hobbit would have prob had 3 lunches by then.
On the whole, an absolutely awesome day!!

Amazing photos again! That stone beach with the mountains in the distance looked truly epic. All the best for the wedding you two, look forward to hearing how the big day goes! :)
