Aujourd'hui il ... read more

During the planning phase for this holiday there was some discussion about rising early this morning to go up Mount Victoria to watch the sun rise. Well, we checked the weather forecast last night - cloudy, wet and windy with the chance of an early morning thunder storm - and decided that we would sleep in instead!! We left the hotel with a plan to head towards the War Memorial and Art Gallery to see the Great War exhibition and eat some breakfast on the way. Rydges Hotel is quite close to the waterfront so we decided to head towards the water and try to find some food at cafe or restaurant with a water view. The sun was shining and there was only a light breeze. If there was a thunderstorm this morning we slept ... read more

Well, this is a first - we are now in New Zealand and I haven't finished blogging our South American adventure! My excuse is that we decided to move house almost as soon as we arrived home from our last holiday in April and the time spent preparing our house for sale, selling, searching for a new house, buying a new house, moving house and making it feel like home resulted in zero time for sitting down to finish the blog!! For those who want to know how we spent our last few days in Patagonia you might want to scroll back to previous blogs. I am making a concerted effort to finish recording our last holiday simultaneously with writing about our time in NZ. Gidget and Finbar started their holiday yesterday when I dropped them ... read more

Well !!!! What a day!!!! What has happened in the last couple of days?? Something has gone wrong and things are not going as they should. The 14th and 15th November 2016 has been " Just One Of Those Days, Just One Of Those Crazy Days". This is both days. Just after midnight at the start of a fresh new day { Monday the 14th} we were hit with a 7.5 earth quake which effected the top of the South Island very much, with heaps of damage, and also the bottom of the North Island {Wellington sustained a lot of damage, and effecting lots of areas through out the country. Earthquakes are the pits, not a thing you can do. Pretty much a sleepless night as the after shocks have been continuios since. Lots of disruption ... read more

Yes, Busy, but really not. Just enjoying being home here and enjoying the various things we have happening. We seem to journey back and forth to Amy's a lot and we have now caught up with most people after our time away. With the school holidays happening in late September we had Holly and Ella at home with us and then we all headed up to Hastings. Di is going into work on the odd day and it is amazing how time flies. On the last day of September Chris and his friend Kristoffer arrived from Norway for a weeks fishing in Turangi. Di and I picked him up at Napier airport early Friday and after a couple of hours with Amy, Jeremy and the kids Chris, Kristoffer, Jeremy and myself headed off for the 2hour ... read more

Spring had definitely sprung, a leak more like, as on most days it was now reminiscent of home. It was almost comforting to see downpours, as it felt like autumn was upon me after the extremely mild Winter,(which had been even better than the British Summer) I'd just had. What better way to spend a grey Saturday afternoon than taking in a spot of lunch with Tracy and Lou at a restaurant, I'd previously indulged in their Dessert and Cocktail match, namely Logan Browns. This place renowned for good service and excellent food, did not dissapoint on this occasion either. It was a lovely open white washed room with a fantastic dome ceiling including none other than an aquarium bar. I loved it. It exuded class with a relaxed charming atmosphere. The wine, a Schuberts Red ... read more

We have now been home for 2 weeks, sort of. One week at home and then up to Taupo for a couple of days to inspect Annemarie and Carrardos new house. Most impressed and we know that it will serve them well for family holidays. Di and I still think about a move to Taupo as we love it there so much, but committing to leave Wellington would be very hard. From Taupo we went over the hill to Hastings to catch up with the kids. So nice to see them and have lots of hugs. We did have some trepidation returning to NZ during August, into the cold weather but we have been pleasantly surprised at how lucky we have been with very settled weather and not being to cold. Also quite busy catching up ... read more

So here we go. Today!!! Off to Norway to stay with Chris, Hege, Lilly and Stella. Looking so forward to seeing them all and spending time in Bergen, then Spain. The last few weeks have been pretty quite but some good times with the kids in Hastings and a bit of fishing, also enjoying the brilliant weather here in Wellington. Pleased to say that my knee has improved well so I should be able to tackle Hadrians Wall. I will endeavour to keep the blogs up with what we do and how things are going. Catch up soon. So apparently 'Winter' was here, rather than coming (excuse the 'Game of Thrones' reference, I am now hooked and all caught up!?). Along with 'Birthday' season for Ceri, Heidi, Me Tracy and Jade. Ceri started the ball rolling, with her special day being the 10th June when we went to the Hippopotamus Restaurant and Bar located in the Museum Hotel, to celebrate. It's a rather oppulent venue, with great views of the water and renowned for its Art. I'd had a drink in there previously, with Nicole when we'd caught up over Easter. This time, it was for a, 'Hip High Tea', that afternoon which included a cocktail and a GF option. Whoooo Hooo! ?Executive Chef, Laurent Loudeac had lovingly created a beautifully presented, selection of sweet and savoury morsels for us to scoff which was ... read more

My life in NZ continued and I was really loving my job. Five weeks in, I finally felt I had the cold counter offerings nailed, with only a cut finger and a burn to each arm. Oh well, you can't make an omelette without cracking a few eggs, as they say?! Maggie had upped my hours slightly, so I was now there five days a week working between 22 and 24 hours in total. I still needed a few more hours so continued my search for another part time role. I was learning so much at 'Peckish' and thoroughly enjoying it, I didn't want to give it up, if I could help it. My social calendar was still busy, but now I was working and in kind of a routine, I felt I had more time ... read more
