Also known as a Kiwi christmas tree 'cos of it's colour & the fact it flowers at x-mas time .. and it's all good! Nina, Barney & I are enjoying life on our hill in Newlands. I am especially proud of Nina as she has mastered the cat-flap!
The concerts at the botanic gardens continued to be varied (african, brazilian (no hot brazilian men though, which was a shame) indian, rock-y/pop-y, etc) and good fun.
The weekend that I moved into the house was manic - how I found time, I do not know! On the friday night there was an open-air screening of Grease, which was great until the heavens opened and we got soaked! Had to find shelter in the pub - shame! Saturday was Wellington Cup race day, so a new outfit was purchased. My feet got ripped to shreds by the ridiculous sandals (consequence of buying cheap - not like me and I shan't do that again!), but hey they looked good! As a result I had to consume a fair amount of bubbles to numb the pain! And finally on Sunday 28th, the moggies & I moved into the Newlands pad. Some quick unpacking and then more music in the gardens.
The house is great and having a car to drive as well is
Race day
Lisa, Carol & Amy all dressed up & still sober! a real bonus. Shame it is only until July. I am half-heartedly looking for a flat mate, as the $$ would be good.
Feb 6th was Waitangi day. It is also Bob Marley's birthday (or anniversary of his death, can't remember). So there was a big concert thing 'One Love'. A reggae fest really. Reminded me of Ashton Court festival about 15 years ago, before it got big and they started charging you!
In amongst all the good stuff going on in Wellington there are also plays & galleries galore. So I have joined Downstage theatre (www.downstage.co.nz) (as audience, not performer!) and went to see 'The case of Katherine Mansfield'. Katherine Mansfield was born in Wellington & wrote short stories. So it was a play about her life, told through her work & diaries.
The City gallery had Sam Taylor-Wood's exhibition here, so got to see that too. Wellington Museum of City & Sea (www.museumofwellington.co.nz) does what it says on the tin and is a good place to spend a soggy Saturday afternoon! And last Friday I went off to see some open-air Shakespeare. 'As you like it' was on .... in the botanic gardens! So I am managing to
Race day
Lisa, Karrie-Ann & Carol. Not quite so sober! be quite a culture vulture!
A couple of weeks ago I went to the climbimg wall (www.fergskayaks.co.nz)and had a bash at that - wow! New favorite thing! Going again this week.
We had severe weather warnings all last week, and on Saturday the Hurricanes came to town! Yes, it was the first home game of the Super-14s and 'we' (it's bizarre supporting someone other than Bristol! Bumped into a Bath supporter in the queue) scored a 23-22 win over the Blues. Really good atmosphere. There is an online virtual (www.telecomvirtualrugby.co.nz) thing and most of the dept have signed up. I am currently leader of the pack, as far as work mates go!
Yesterday I took part in a 7km fun run/walk (yep, I walked) and today my name is in the paper! Despite walking I still managed to come 5778 out of over 10,000! Maybe next year I'll run....... The shuttle bus to get back was so rammed that I walked another 7km! Feeling very virtuous, and a little sore, today!
Work is turning out to be really good! I seem to have got the hang of the purchasing lark and I haven't stuffed up too much, which is good
All dressed up
Me & Lisa. Definately not sober news. Anne (my boss) had a day off last week and left me on my own. She picked a good day! It started with a disaster that I managed to contain and that pretty much set the tone for the rest of the day!
I am about to be let loose on an IT project, so I shall endeavour not to cause chaos!
I am excited to be having my first visitor next month. Kaye is on her way over from Dublin, so I am looking forward to seeing her & having sone time off.
Mum & Dad are over in October - they have nearly 6 weeks of travelling to look forward to! Lucky buggers!
Thank you so much to everyone who has sent personal e-mails. I do read them all, even if I don't reply straight away (or at all). I love to hear from everyone, so please keep them coming.
Well I guess that'll do for now, as I want to get out & enjoy the summer evenings while we still have them!
Take care
A xx
