Alright!Alright!Alright!

Aaron and Jude practice for the forthcoming Fonzie fan fest.
Well, here it is folks, a little overdue but high time we wished you all a very Happy New Year. I would like to say that we had a better New Year's than we did Christmas but once again the weather and a bunch of inconsiderate travellers once again conspired to dampen our spirits. It wasn't all bad news as we did head back over to Taita on New Year's Eve to meet David's son.

When we came to New Zealand, we had hoped to make contact with David, a cousin of Glynn's mum. Meeting him was brilliant and when he told us he had a son who was dying to meet us, we were chuffed to bits. Aaron was certainly a chip off the old block. He had inherited David's laid-back approach to life and the biggest surprise was that Aaron is half Maori. The Maori are the original inhabitants of New Zealand a bit like the Aboriginals in Australia. Every Maori person we've met so far over here has been very friendly and happy-go-lucky and Aaron seems to fit the bill there too. We had an enjoyable afternoon getting to know him and he seemed just as excited

about it all as we were :-) We also managed to get David to have his photo taken this time, so Glynn's mum will be happy!

As for New Year's Evening, well it was a complete disaster. It absolutely chucked it down with rain and the wind was ferocious so we abandoned our plan to attend a free open-air concert in the city centre that had sounded like a really cool way to celebrate with local people. Instead we holed up in our room at the hostel and rode out the storm outside while all manner of infuriating behaviour raged int he common room directly above us. We have nothing against anyone having a good time but this really was drunkeness taken to an extreme the likes of which I haven't seen since my rep days working in Kavos. By 8pm people were being sick all over the place and just being noisy as hell.

By 11pm, we couldn't take it any more and went out to get away from it all. Thankfully the rain had stopped so we took a stroll by the harbour and over to where the concert should have been in full swing. A sign outside told us that the free party had been cancelled due to the bad weather which was hardly surprising. It was too cold and windy to stay out long and we found that there were drunken louts everywhere we went so we went back to the hostel in time for us to celebrate the change of year somewhere in the corridor outside our room. It was about 3am before the noise upstairs abated and we could get some sleep. At least we had good old Battlestar Galactica to keep us company.
