I had a brief stint in Wellington which is the capitol city of New Zealand. The 300,000 person metropolitan area lies on the southern coast in a sheltered harbour from the Cook Strait which separates the North and South Islands of New Zealand. The city is nice enough and I enjoyed my couple of days here; more so than Auckland. However, like all things New Zealand it is an expensive place. A couple of days walking around in the sun was a nice way to kill a couple of days though before I would drive my car onto the InterIslander Ferry for the crossing to the South Island. Not to much to write home about in Wellington other than I spent to much money, got a parking ticket (which I have no intention of paying), and ... read more

Pendant cette étape à Wellington ... read more

Geo: -41.2865, 174.776We had another sluggish day at sea yesterday and managed only a bit over 6,000 steps. Yesterday was Mothering Sunday, Britain's version of Mothers' Day, and the restaurant offered a special chocolate dessert for all the mothers with dinner. Actually anyone could order it, but it was nice. The day in Wellington started slowly. I have been fighting off a cold the last couple of days and wanted to take it easy again. We spent most of yesterday at sea just reading and relaxing. I had planned a self-guided walk around Wellington, and we did part of it before tiring out and returning to the ship. Started with breakfast in the Princess Grill before leaving the ship. We took the Cunard shuttle into the center of Wellington driving first through the shipyard containing huge ... read more

Hello People, We woke up at Watsons Way Campsite and backpackers. I had a horrible headache! We showered, had bacon sandwiches for breakfast, and then played (tried too) tennis. Not for long as I really did feel yuck from yesterdays wine antics! We updated our phones before heading to the ferry terminal at around 9am. However I received an email from the Picton ferry terminal saying that our ferry had been cancelled due to bad weather at sea, and that we would now have a new departure time of 2pm. It’s a great set up as it meant we wouldn’t be hanging around waiting at the terminal. So we left the campsite about 10.30am. We drove to Pak n Save before the terminal for a few feel better/healthier luxuries-avocado, fruit smoothie, jerky and grapes. We arrived ... read more

Hi Everyone, We left the Kapiti coast about 8am, it was cold when we woke up but we soon had the gas stoves on making breakfast and warming us up. It was only a 30-minute drive to the main road into Wellington, the traffic started to get really heavy so we knew not to go any further as there would definitely not be a free place to park. So we pulled off and headed up a road, it went all the way up for about 10 minutes so there were great views at the top. We parked on a quiet-ish housing estate, that didn’t have any parking restrictions. The bus also went into the city at the bottom of the road, which was handy. We bought a $9.50 all day bus pass, and headed into the ... read more

A long and painful series of flights landed me safely in Wellington. The sinuses that had been suffering through a cold since last weekend made their complaints known all the way through the many hours on planes. The first flight was empty so I claimed a row of seats managed to lie down and even get some sleep. From Bangkok to Auckland was a different story - a full plane with a small army of people who clearly lacked any understanding of the concept of personal space. That made landing in NZ an even bigger relief than normal. Seamless transfer (by foot) to the domestic terminal and thence to Wellington. Cloudy day so no clear views of the volcanoes on the way down. The beauty of the approach to Wellington was completely overtaken by intense pain. ... read more

Geo: -41.2865, 174.776Some two years later I am finally getting around to doing this blog! Wow!So after throwing the ring in to Mount Doom, we headed to Napier where we visited my Aunt. The town of Napier is quite nice with Art Deco buildings and the beach. It's also a handy place for wine lovers although we couldn't really appreciate in that way as we don't really drink wine, although in typing this two years later, we have more of a appreciation and liking of wine. We visited Te Mata peak with what Anna describes as the classic New Zealand landscape. We also visited Ocean Beach which is south of Napier and tucked in to a roast chicken lunch while improving our tans. Then it was on the road to Wellington to see yet another Aunt, via McDonalds in ... read more

Hierbij zijn we even gestopt in Napier.

Hello, It's about time that I put one of these together but as I have been having a bit of the quite time, there has been nothing to really write about, or photo's to put on here. Time just seems to flash by. Since my last blog I have been at home just doing the normal every day things such as walking, biking, and a few things around the house. We have been busy planning our next trip, which we start in mid June and return in early September. All plans and bookings are in place and we can now get excited about it. We start of with a few days in London before heading to Alicante, Spain to join Chris, Hege and the girls for a couple of weeks at the apartments. From there we ... read more

Geo: -41.2865, 174.776Wellington looked like another attractive small city where work could be exciting and play interesting, helped by more sunny days with perfect blue skies, although the wind was chilly for a couple of days. Our first exploration was on the tram that took us up to the botanical gardens and a view of the city, reminding us of a the peak tram in Hong Kong, though much less busy. Muscle strain in my legs from the Tongariro crossing 2 days before continued to make walking up and down slopes and stairs agony. Its so much easier to be young! kess and Jess identified a funky fish resturant for our last meal together and then they went off to find designer beers and check out the night life ( although still only 8.30pm}while we found ... read more
