Heading for Wellington and my return flight to Christchurch I followed the East Coast stopped at Napier for one night, an Art Deco?? Town with black sand, sorry folks but it just doesn't hit the spot for me. Next stop was Upper Hutt about a thirty minute drive to Wellington. Did some walking here managed to force myself over a narrow swing bridge to do a walk up to the dam, well worth it. Next day took a ferry across the harbour from Days Bay to Wellington to observe the festivities of the Seven tournament, not quite sure how much of it was to do withRugby. Everyone visiting the tournament goes in fancy dress, great fun, needless to say accompanied by lots of booze and jumping off the wharf into the sea. In the morning I took the cable car to the top of the hill which overlooks the city, great views, then walked back down through the Botanical gardens. Weather was very warm and sunny, a fun day.
