When it comes to roommates I seem to always luck out with getting put with the good ones. There has never seem to have been a dull moment in my life when I start a new chapter in my life which involves living with complete strangers. As many of you will recall my freshman year roommate in college who peed on me, became a lost person, broke many windows, and was an overall drunk. I am pretty sure I will never be able to find a roommate that will top her list but I have found roommates who can just add onto it. Basic cooking skills is something that parents should teach their kids before sending them off to live on their own. Not should basic cooking skills be taught but so should basic "in case ... read more

If my last entry has left you confused I am sorry, it was my way of trying to cleverly tell Robert and Erin that I would be able to return to the states in time for their wedding. I spent the first couple of days of classes figuring out a course schedule that has no final exams and allows me to be completely done with classes the 14th of October. This weekend called for a rainy Saturday so we were all bummed that we would not be able to really get out and explore more. However, when I awoke on Saturday morning it was clear and sunny. On a last minute decision me, Mara, Pablo, Emma, and Ben walked 4 hours down to the Island Bay region of Wellington, which is the southern most point of ... read more

Beautiful Wellington Day 1 - Friday After finding sustenance in my Grande Caramel Macciato in Starbucks, feeling refreshed & refueled, I ventured off into the unknown city (well, unknown to me as everyone else looked like they knew where they were going!). It is so quaint with streets darting off everywhere, people everywhere and little boutique shops that look far too expensive to even walk into! Very arty & chic was the vibe that I got from the city of Wellington. I kept walking and exploring and takings pics and was enthralled by the sights. Wellington has trolley buses...like trams, they are powered by overhead electricity source which they are connected to by cables, but they are buses on wheels, not on tracks. I haven't seen vehicles like these before - fascinating. I kept walking and ... read more

Geo: -41.2865, 174.776Part Two: Tongariro to Wellington. We woke up to pouring rain and gusty northerlies (saw that in the newspaper and I love that description!). Luckily it was down to a drizzle when we had to load up the car. The drive to Wellington was lots of up and down hill, tons of curves and, since it was raining most of the time, I was going pretty slow. The good thing is that New Zealand drivers are pretty polite and I never felt too pressured to go faster. There are lots of places to pull over and let others pass and we also stopped at a few scenic waysides. One was a nice waterfall and others were just nice lookouts over valleys. Eventually we descended out of the hills and the road became a little ... read more

It is Friday the 1st of April 2011 and I am about to leave school. I have to say goodbye to all my friends before I leave. Lots of different emotions swelled inside me. I was excited, nervous, happy and a little scared to leave all I ever knew behind. It is now 3:55 pm and our plane is leaving to Aussie. It is a 3 hour flight but the time flied and we were there in a blink of an eye. We arrived in Australia at 4:55 their time and had to wait 4 hours before our flight to Hong Kong. It was an 8 hour flight to Hong Kong and we got to watch movies and sleep. At 4:30 am HK time on 2nd of April we finally arived.... read more

Monday 29th November 2010 (Wellington) Today we were shopping, not for your usual NZ items such as Jade or an All Blacks jersey, but for Smurf costumes to celebrate Rita’s Birthday. 9 of us scoured the various cheap shops and charity shops where we bought lots of blue face paint and white outfits with pillowcases for hats. We managed to sort our costumes out before the others, so we hit Te Puia museum an hour before closing, where we saw the giant squid and whale skeleton. Time to paint the town blue... A dozen of us got ready in the Irish girls’ room, which after an hour or so had a blue tint we all hoped management wouldn’t notice. Smurfs hit the hostel bar with many amused looks from the people around and after several drinks ... read more

Well, it turns out it's been a while since I last wrote this- almost 4 months in fact! I guess a lot has been going on but it just seemed like normal life really, just that I've been living my normal life at the other side of the world, far away from all you lovely people! But now I've finished up at work and tomorrow morning, just after the rugby finishes, I head off to do my last tiny bit of travelling. Then I get back to beautiful but cold and miserable Scotland on the 3rd of December (Flags ready?!). So, I really should do a bit of an update on whats been going on in Wellington the last 4 months! I'll warn you all now though- this is going to be a bit of a ... read more
