My departure from Kaikoura happened very quickly, in many ways I was sad to leave. I'd felt like I was ready to go for a while, but I'd settled in there and was starting to feel almost like a local (well, almost). I will be back there in roughly a month, but I don't know yet how long I will stay. I'm going to miss Max and Kd, having lived with them for over four months and become very involved in their lifestyle and the ongoing work on their house. I travelled up to Wellington on Friday with Leesa, a girl I have been seeing for a few weeks. An American chef with an infectious laugh, she works at a hotel just outside kaikoura, but managed to take a few days off to visit the North ... read more

First off. Thanks for all of you who wrote comments. I'm unfortunately an idiot and didn't know that the comment system forces me to actively accept them in order to show up. Now that I know, feel free to continue commenting and I'll be sure to accept them quickly. Gaddang spammers ruin the Internet for everyone. It occurs to me that we are terrible bloggers. Either that, or we've been really busy having a mostly good time. Or both. When we last left our heroes, they had just spent their first night in Napier and were preparing for a busy day of wine-filled peril. Did they survive? Did they manage not to embarrass themselves? Did they meet a stinky goat? Read on for all the answers, and more! Where were we? Ah yes, Napier. We ... read more

This weekend we had a major show down south on the North Island, so we drove down last week. Not long after we pulled out I got accosted by this tiny bird that had gotten itself trapped in the truck, it kept flapping in my face and I was laughing and screaming so couldn't get it out. Luckily someone rolled the window down so it escaped. At the end of the weekend we had a party with those of us who were left there still...there were free drinks, and a lot of rain, so a few of us went swimming in the mud. My jeans are destroyed...massive holes in them, in the bin they go! Everything is covered in mud, the entire truck!Aw well, was good fun anyhow!... read more

First off before i begin i have to admit that despite the claim, we were not actually in Wairarapa, in fact i have never even heard of the place. Its just that River Valley the place we actually stopped is so small that it didnt warrant a mention on this site or seemingly on any map. To make matters worse the whole reason that we were going to the place (white water rafting) was cancelled due to excessive rain fall. To make up for it though we went on the flying fox (as pictured) which is basically a massive zip wire which runs about 1.2km through a canyon on which you reach speeds of about 160 kph (120mph). It was ok - in fact it sounds a heck of a lot more scary than it actually ... read more

Back at work now, plenty of IT opportunities - yet more downtime - so time to catch up with some more bloggin. It is not every weekend that we manage to do something exciting enough to warrent its own blog but last weekend we decided it was time to get back on the road and see a bit more of the north island. In fact when we arrived back in Wellington one day when we decided to avoid the post holiday blues and head off with Alasdair and Paula to visit Paula's mum Mari and her husband Roger at their home North of Wellington in a region called the Wairarapa. Driving about an hour and a half north of Wellington in the dark, up a hill, round some hairpin bends, through the torrential rain that has ... read more
