Now back on line for the next few days and so just a quick update. Hopefully more pictures soon.
We are now on the North Island. We spent 3 nights in the Tongariro National Park and walked the Tongariro Crossing - it took 8 hours or so. It's a volcano hotspot and there are also lots of sulphurous pools and streams. The weather was perfect. not a cloud to be seen. Andy wanted to climb up a volcano but we didn't have time (phew) and there was no way I was climbing up a 35 degree slope!
Unfortunatley the town we were staying in went to bed before the New Year came in so we had to too - no parties to be found ! 😞
We are now in Rotorua which is a centre for more vocanic and geo-thermal activity (smells of sulphur!)
We have just come back from a Maouri experience - lots of Hakas. We ate a hangi which is a typical maouri feast (Lamb and chicken cooked by steaming in the ground). It was all very enjoyable.
