Alright, legs are really hurting today.
On the bus now to Wellington, my last stop on the north island. Capital of New Zealand, the locals call it windy Wellington because it's one of (if not the) windiest cities in the world. Spending 2 nights there before taking the ferry to the south island.
The day after the mount doom hike, the whole group went back to where the volcanos are and did a 2 hour walk around the area. We could see the volcano I hiked and couldn't believe I hiked it. Such a high volcano and so steep, just kept saying wow I was up there! Felt really proud and accomplished, even if the legs are hurting 3 days later.
We stopped at a place known as gollum's hole. It's in the scene from the second lord of the rings movie when gollum is smacking a fish and singing a song about it. There is a 7 metre high waterfall there that you can jump off. I jumped the first time, then hiked back up and did a flip the second time! Gave my camera to someone from the tour and got an awesome video of me
doing the flip into the waterfall. Really cool. Will post it on facebook or I can email it to you at request next time I get WiFi.
Last night we stayed at a place called river valley. It's built like a log cabin in the middle of nowhere. Tons of green rolling hills around and a lot of sheep. There was literally one bunk that 36 people had to sleep in. The first thing it reminded me of was the bunks from la vita e Bella, but probably more luxurious than that. (It actually wasn't that bad). I woke up in the middle of the night and the guy beside me was asleep with his face resting on my foot.
They had a contest at the bar last night. It's kind of hard to explain, but essentially what you had to do was climb on the table and without touching the floor, go under the table, around the bottom of the table and climb back up on the table on the other side. The first person to do it got a free jug of beer. The table was about 5 feet wide. A bunch of people tried it, couldn't do it. A couple drunk people just fell off the table right away. I tried it, couldn't do it but got about half way around. Some people tried it again, still couldn't do it. There was a bit of a lull where no one was going, so I was like whatever I'll try again to bring the mood back up. Didn't think I would do it. Ended up getting my arms spanned across the table from the underside, my feet braced on this beam under the table, swung my ankle on the far side of the table. I was thinking wait a second, I could actually do this! So I swung my knee up onto the far side of the table and crawled up. Got an insanely loud cheer from the bar, it was so awesome. Then enjoyed a nice free jug of amber ale.
This morning I woke up pretty early and did a white water rafting trip. Great time. Was in a boat with 3 Danes and a Norwegian. Really beautiful scenery on the side of the river and the rafting was pretty good. I fell out of the boat so many times, but the water was really nice. There were some good pictures of us, but no one else wanted to pitch in and split the price of them, so didn't end up getting them. Just have the memories!
Like I said earlier, I'm on the bus now on the way to Wellington. Will probably have to go for a massage or just have a recovery day tomorrow because between hiking, climbing around tables, doing flips off waterfalls and whitewater rafting, the body is a bit sore!
