Foods I Want to Load up in a Suitcase and Take back to the States!
- Chilli Sauce over cream cheese with wedges -You can’t go back to ketchup after trying this.
- HP Sauce --is like AW sauce except much more versatile.
- Slices -there is such a plethora of flavours for these, should accompany all lunches!
- Meat Pies -These are everywhere here! One of the more popular pie shops here in town is a place called Jesters which caters largely to the student crowd, but generally i find the best pies can be found at the local bakery. (Egg and Bacon is my favourite)
- Pancakes with fried banana and bacon -defiantly a different type of breakfast, but enjoyable.
- Clove seasoning on Chips (French fries) This is revolutionary.
- Kebabs -not sure how but they are different here and taste so much better.
- A Tim Tam Slam -you bite off the ends of your Tim Tam dunk it in tea or coffee then proceed to suck till the middle of your candy is liquid, then you shove it all in your mouth! Is simply amazing.
- Caramelized Dumplings -they serve this a lot at the dining hall at MU campus. After awhile you begin to expect it with every meal.
- Kumara -is like a sweet potato
- Pastry Crackers -good crackers.
- Crunchies, Pineapple Lumps, Moro Sticks -These range from candy bars to lollies, I will admit I have become somewhat addicted to candy here.
- Golden Kiwis -They’re not made from real gold but they put the Green Kiwi to shame.
- Kiwi Burger -Think burger with beets and pineapple inside. It’s a collision of flavours you never would have been brave enough to invent yourself. (I am not refering to the MCd's Kiwiburger, have never tried it.)
- Beer Pizza -While this is not a local Kiwi food iteam. One of the girls in my hall who is also on studying abroad (she's from Balitmore) makes it everynow and then. It is simple to make and is great for a late night "feed" with friends.
Well that is about it. Sadly I have not exposed myself to too much fine dining while here but hopefully that will change. Most of these food items are comfort foods or low key. More to come! (There is a place advertising deep fried Mars Bars in town. Will definitely try this out at some point)
