On my way to Kaitaia today to visit the 90 mile beach and parts north to the tip of the North Island - Cape Reinga. On my way I dropped by Kerikeri to see a few sights. One of them was the Stone Store, open for business since 1836 and it is New Zealand's oldest stone building and the oldest store. You can buy the Jews harp or the pen quill and many things in between. An interesting visit. Situated nearby was the Kerikeri Riverside Walk and access to two waterfalls - Rainbow Falls and Wharepuke Falls. The latter could be reached by a gentle, 20 minute hike, one way. For the other you could basically drive and needed to hike only if you wanted to see the base of the falls as well. Following the ... read more

South America, well, Chile and Argentina have been paving the roads so fast that we have put this 28 day, 5,000km plus, Tarmac Tour together for couples on Road Bikes. We have an eclectic mix of motorcycles and people for this adventure. From Auckland, we have Bob and Mary Grey, with Mary riding her Spyder and Bob on his BMW F650 GS. From Invercargill, we have Ross (D Duke) and Christine Bulling, they will be riding their bright red Ducati ST3. Raewyn (Bones) and I will be riding our Harley Davidson Ultra Classic CVO, with Gerardo leading the charge on his BMW1200 GS. We are also taking 3 x Suzuki DR 650's over in the container for three guys from Dunedin, they will only stay with us for a few days, then head off on their ... read more

Motorcycles are finally Home... After a long voyage from Chile to new Zealand, via China (Hong Kong), we have finally got our motorcycles back, but not without our fair share of frustration and delays. The ship was due into port on a Thursday, and so I organised a run down to Hamilton see my sister, Robyn and brother in law, Rex, who was making up the steel work for my Parrilla (BBQ) project at home for me. This would also allow me time to catch up with Barry Sproule, at Road and Sport Harley Davidson and visit the National Field Days at Mystery Creek, then back to Auckland to clear the moto’s on Tuesday or Wednesday, the following week, this looked like a good plan For the first time, New Zealand Customs, selected our container for ... read more

Now with the three little Citroen 2CV's neatly packed into a forty foot container, and one BMW moto that we are shipping for Lucas, all we have to do now is wait until it arrives in Valparaiso, Chile at the end of February. I am so glad the cars have gone, as now I can get on with other things around here that have been left behind while mucking around with the cars, as you do! Darbi Accessories have again been very good to us and have supplied all the Spectro oil that we will need over our 10,000 km expedition. Along with new oil filters and NGK Spark plugs, thanks again Terry, Steve and String for your support. Turtle Wax have also come to the party with lots of samples of their new Ice Synthetic ... read more

Well, Gerardo and I decided to have a break from our Moto High Andes Adventure next year, as he is in need of a 'Holiday' with his wife, Marisol and with his new job, time and commitment began to rule. I thought it would be a good idea also, as I have been missing out on a few local adventure rides during the time that we are away in South America. One idle day, after driving our little Citroen 2CV around a few back roads up hear in the North, this crazy idea came to me..."Why don't we take some of these little cars to South America?"....... So after sending a letter inviting expressions of interest, to the New Zealand Citroen Car Club, we now have three cars and six adventurous people committed to the adventure, ... read more

The day started bad, the old guy in our dorn snored all night long and even with ear plugs he keeped you up. I stated heading north east and there was a head wind from hell. Im not sure what speed it was but im sure i was rolling backwords. but i new as long as i could get the 30ks to Hokianga harbour i would be set. 30 ks isnt far but the wind was so strong i was lucky to be doing 10kph and when you have a avg of 18ks it kills ya. About 15ks in with wind strill hard in me face i got sight of another solo bike rider she was comeing at me, and flying i must say. We stoped and chated for a bit s she was was quiet ... read more

The Container with 7 motos is on it's way to Valparaiso, for our our next South American Moto Adventure. This year will be a little different, especially for me, as I will be driving the Chase Truck, so I will have to re adjust my thinking and have some patience when it comes to the traffic and not having the freedom of the moto!!. The other big challenge for me is the fact that Gerardo is not able to be with us on this adventure, due to work and personal pressure. He may be able to join us in the beginning for a few days and also at the end, but we will have to see what unfolds here. To help with day to day logistics, we will have String riding the blue lowered KLR that ... read more

A shaky start to High Andes 2010 We have a group of adventurers, standing by as details are sorted out in Chile after the devastating earthquake and resulting tsunami, that has wreaked havoc in the city of Conception and the surrounding area. There are still a lot of logistical challenges in front of us before we are on our moto’s and heading North, away from the destruction. How ever today there was a reported 6.2 earthquake in Antofagasta, in the North. It is a blessing that Gerardo and family are all safe, as his two boys were in Valdivia, south of Conception and his daughter was on a flight to Antofagasta, in the North, the flight was diverted to Puerto Montt. It will be interesting to see how much drama we will have, to get ... read more
