Just one last picture of the friendly pooch before we left
Left Jaine/Alex’s after a leisurely breakast including a stroll around the garden. We topped at Mount Bruce wildlife centre which is a splendid stop. They protect and breed rare NZ birds. The birds are housed in large aviaries set in a remnant of ancient forest. There are stitchbirds, kaka and takahe. Thee are streams with huge eels. However the highlight was the nocturnal Kiwi House were night and ay are reversed so that the iwis ae active during the day. Once our eyes had accustomed to the low lighting we had a fantastic view of a rummaging kiwi. It was superb. As we continued our journey (in drizzle) the landscape changed to gently folded hills used for sheep farming. The sun returned to give them a beautifl look. We arrived at Napier late afternoon and headed to the supermarket for a big restock of supplies. The YHA where we stayed was right on the beach road and very comfy. The manager particularly friendly and chatty.
