Hello everyone.
We have had a lovely last two days here at Mount. Following the rainy day we woke to sunshine again – a bit of luck as it had been forecast for rubbish weather. So back to glorious sunshine with lashings of suntan cream factor 30 being used by me and Suz. After a brekki of “mum’s” poached eggs and a bit of lazing about food supplies were running low and as we were expecting visitors we went off to the local NewWorld supermarket to stock up…and to the veg stall down the road $5 ( £2.50) for a bag of 10 sweetcorn. …cheap as chips. Having been a bit bemused by the signs which said “stonefruit $5 a bag”I was wondering what a “stonefruit” was…but then my clever daughter looked at me as if I was daft and said “ its any fruit with stones in Mother- like peaches and plums”!!!! Maybe the sun is affecting my brain!!!!
And so to our visitors – we have had Jocelyne and Mac stay with us for 2 days – they are my previous NZ house swappers from Hawkes Bay and how lovely it was to be with them again….endlessly chatting about
what we have been up to in the last 3 years- and future travel plans.
We have enjoyed just being here at this lovely beach resort – sitting on the deck, at the pool , wandering over to the beach ( yes- Patricia in togs and jandals + a sarong!!) where it has been fun to let the surf plough into you and splash about….am too scared to swim in it – and its true about the great white shark being spotted around the Bay.
Today us girls went off to the local town Tauranga and left Mac to walk on the beach and read his book in peace. It’s an important port for NZ here and quite a bit of industry around – but into the main town centre there are nice old buildings, art deco, along The Strand – running by an estuary and some interesting Maori carvings and a waka ( canoe)…..as well as a couple of old heritage houses built by early settlers – a mission and that Rev Brown popping up again – he was in the Bay of Islands too- he got around trying to convert Maori to Christianity.
And so back to base
and more loafing about on the deck at the pool and on the beach – isn’t it getting boring!!! And out tonight for a meal –at a Morroccan resto - thanks Mac and Jocelyne for the treat…we are of course trying out local beers and cider too as well as the wines.
And would you believe it we are packing again – our week here is over and tomorrow ( Friday) we are off again- not too far – to a cottage on lake Rotoiti- near Rotorua – thermal activity country and lots of Maori heritage…so looking forward to that though I will be sorry to leave this beautiful place –its been very restful here and great to have such magnificent beach on our doorstep.
So Nite Nite – not sure about internet access next week so you might get a rest from the blogs.
Love to all Lynne and Suzanne. xxx
PS - Hills - sorry to hear you had the dreaded flu - hope our sunshine photos cheer you up and make you better. Hugs XXX
Jennifer - good to hear from you at last - thought you had run off!!!

Take a peg !!
Dear Lynne and Suzanne, You should write a travel book Lynne, I love reading your stories and then I want to go there.Or maybe you have that way of looking at the best in everything. You have probably been to Rotorua before but if not, the sulphur is very strong. You get used to it though. Take a peg !! Take care, love from Suzanne and girls.
