Russell Birdman Festival and before...

This is the first of a weekly diary for our up-coming trip. While still in the planning stages as it were, we are sending this out as a test and to receive some feedback from you guys that are on our dreaded mailing list. The big "OE" or is that "EA" European Adventure starts on July 16.

Thursday, July 5th - Our son Harrison's first day on the R. Tucker Thompson (tall sailing ship) and the start of a 7 day adventure.

Friday, July 6th - Harrison's eighteenth birthday; we tried to contact him on the VHF from Russell Radio, but no joy. Hopefully, he hasn't been keel-hauled already.

Saturday, July 7th - After a week of rain, the sun came out in Russell for the inaugural Russell Birdman Festival. Great festivities and fun, starting with a beach dig for the kids, kayak races and culminating in a leap-of-faith from the wharf for all would be Icarus's. We haven't seen this many people in Russell for quite a while, at least during winter. Hopefully, the weather will be as kind in future years.
