1st November 2008 Russell Had an early flight up to Kerikeri in the Bay of Islands, followed by a shuttle bus to Pahia and a fast ferry to Russell. I stayed at Arcadia Lodge which is a brilliant B & B run by Brad and Dave. Brad used to be foreign affairs editor for Channel 4 news at the same time as Rory was working for them. He remembered Rory - and actually liked him!! Just as well or I might have got burnt toast. The weather wasn't great but that made it seem more like Devon. The view from my window reminded me very much of Newton Ferrers where David's parents used to live. I did several walks around the local area to beaches and Flagstaff Hill. On one, I was accompanied by a dog ... read more

We have to say that We have to say that our decision to travel to almost the top of NZ was certainly the correct decision. The beauty of this place is overwhelming. We had a prize position in the Holiday Park in Russell, the view of the window of the van was fabulous. We looked out over the bay with yachts and boats drifting past in the clear blue water, the sun was shining (not a cloud in the sky) and individual islands everywhere. Nancy has asked me to relate to you what happened when we first arrived at the Park. We had booked in at reception and were driving to our site when Nancy issued this almightly shout STOP. Nancy had seen a family of Californian Quail, that was both parents and 7 tiny little ... read more

18th September 2008 In rained all night and disappointedly the dive was cancelled because of an unusually large ocean swell. It seems the whales don’t want to meet us. Oh well we set off again to the Bay of Islands via a visit to the ‘Longest Foot Bridge in the Southern Hemisphere’. To our surprise we were met half way across by a lady leading a beautiful horse. The horse was in the water swimming, his morning exercise apparently, he seemed to really be enjoying himself. We also were welcome by a gorgeous dog which we made a big fuss of and thought of Barny and Lucy, a sad moment on a glorious morning. Pili insisted that we stopped off at Kawakawa to visit the World famous ‘Hunderwasser Toilets’. These amazing bogs were really made famous ... read more

Sie sprang jedoch ... read more

Katinka ... read more

After months of planning and a grueling 40 hours of traveling, Lauren arrives in New Zealand only to be diverted to Christchurch because for the first time in 2 1/2 years Auckland International is closed due to fog!! Four hours later she's back in Auckland and reunites with Simon (who had been waiting at the airport the whole day..) They hadn't seen each other since January and since their relationship had developed somewhat between then and now a polite handshake and trivial conversation about the weather was in order. They set a course north to the Cowshed Backpackers in the Bay of Islands, Northland, from where they were to leave on the Cape Brett walk in the morning. Cape Brett: It was a beautiful day, cloudy enough to keep the sun from beating down on ... read more
