Oakley Creek, this is what it looks like after our first ever week with CVNZ local week again this week, team = Jenny (team leader, 26, really nice, was from manchester but came out here to travel when 18, loved it and moved out here....might be me in the future...), me, Tom, Tracy 41 Carlisle, Hosung 24 Korea, Taz, Kengo, Kordi.
MON - oakley creek, this was my first ever day of work in New Zealand all that time ago! was good going back and seeing the difference we had made by clearing the privet, it was so much lighter and felt alot safer aswell 😊 Most of the team were clearing privet from a different area - as it had all gone from when we were here before - but I was tree releasing with Wendy (the friends of oakley creek volunteer person) then all of us were tree releasing in the afternoon in a different area of oakley creek, on the other side of the stream. got back to the house and watched The Notebook, so sad, going to have to buy it when i get home!!
TUES - we were at Waikowhai Reserve today, Dave - council worker who sorts us out - decided we should have a change from tree

left - right: Uncle Dave (council worker, he doesn't know we call him that), Hosung, Kengo (standing at the top), Tom, Kordi, Tracy, Jenny, Taz, me release work and weeding so we did baitlines checking the poison and traps in a public park. was a good day, very hot and sunny - i got burnt from 20mins in the sun with no lotion on!! i was on jenny's team with kengo and kordi, the others went off with dave. the bait boxes are so different to the ones at hunua and tawharanui because its a very public place and they had to be locked and completely human/dog proof. a good day and a very beautiful view at lunch time, oh, we also saw a (i think buti cant remember the birds now exactly) shag colony, but it may have been ganet, i cant remember.
WEDS - omaru creek (naughty kids neighbourhood) saw the work we had done before from clearing privet and stinking iris, such a difference and again, it felt alot safer!! was really good seeing the stuff we had done before 😊 whilst the others cleared privet i went with dave to tag native grasses for the afternoon when we would all be releasing them (pulling out the weeds from around them to give them 'breathing space'. was nice being trusted to go

Lancewood and find native grasses and then learning them, a good chat with dave aswell 😊 had lunch in Point England reserve, just a 5min drive away and a far nicer place to have lunch, then plant release work after. had an interview in the evening with fiona for Lattitude (my company im out here with) then cooked dinner for everyone and watched Dumbo (yes we are all adults on the project!!)
THURS - very relaxing day today, i forget where it is called where we went but we were working with a fab lady who believed in aliens (she'd seen em and everything), i thought she was going to get us all to sing a lovey/hippy song about how we loved the trees and loved to help them, but she didnt!! we were just weeding in a very small area, first we pulled out dock, ox-tongue and brambles (well i got them because my gloves dont let thorns through) then after morning smoko me taz and jenny went to work with the faeries 😊 a small, blanketing native plant with pretty white flowers and we had to pull out the weeds around it - hence it being a relaxing

the next few pics are from Waikowhai Park day!
FRI - meola reef again today, didnt get to see the place where we cleared privet from the last time as i was tagging native plants again whilst the others cleared privet. then in the afternoon (in the hot hot lovely sun we all released natives, ones i had tagged and others. good times 😊 got back to the house, was weird as noone was around as (on the other team) they had all decided to go to Bay of Islands during the weekend with the voucher the ACB welcome pack (that i didnt get) gives you so it was just me taz kordi and tracy in the house!! went out that night though as it was Jody's last night. good fun 😊
SAT - only me and taz in the house because tracy and Kordi went to Matamata to see Hobbiton and the others were in Bay of Islands. lazed around in the morning then went on up to auckland in the afternoon and lay in Albert Park reading in the sun 😊 was so nice. Tracy and Kordi showed us pics of Hobbiton, was just how it was in the films, well actually it wasnt,
it was all whitewashed and the gardens and flowers and the bridge over the river had gone but thats down to copyright issues and i could imagine it how it was. the party tree and the lake was there and bagend, opnly white!! was fab!
SUN - did nothing 😊 the others got back from BofI, said it was great, can't wait to go in my week off.
