Penguins.
This is one of the pictures I took of these pretty birds. Today, I woke up at 11:30, and I felt like I had slept the day away. I quickly got dressed because I had planned an exciting day at Kelly Tarltons, an underwater aquarium. Today was a bit muggy, but I don't mind. I made my way down the elevator, and walked to reception where they had called me a cab that would take me to Kelly Tarltons.
The air smelt clean and people were busy in their own little worlds walking down the street. Driving there didn't take long and it was great seeing a lot of CBD buildings. They had a starbucks here, which in Australia they don't so I'm really excited to try that.
When I arrived at Kelly Tarltons, I payed $34 to get in and as soon as the automatic doors opened to welcome you in, a great gush of coldness touched you and you felt like you were in the artic ocean. They had penguins, seahorses, sting rays, turtles and about 100+ different types of fish! You could even swim with the sharks! But on this day, I wasn't really game enough to do that so just looking at the animals was good enough for me.
There were many people there, not so much teenagers because it was a school day so most of them were at school, but mostly toddlers and their parents.
As I walked around, everything was a shade of blue and theres was so much to see, I started with the underwater walk. That's where you stand on a convayer belt and it leads you right under the water so you have fish swimming all around you, jellyfish and even sharks and stingrays. Everything was so colourful and I took many great photos. I took a few brochures and moved to look at the penguins. There was a ride you could go on to get closer but for now I was just standing on one side of the glass looking at them and watching a trainer feed them fish. Then I lined up for a ride that took you around their enclosure and whilst it was happening someone was at the front of the cart giving a talk on them. Then just before the ride finished a machanical shark jumps out and scares the living day lights out of you. Many people screamed but I only jumped.
I collected my bag and noticed my stomach was rumbling, I had left the hotel without any food, so my next mission was to find something to eat. Fortunately, Kelly Tarltons had it's own eatery and I just followed the knife and fork shaped drawings on the floor until it took me to a kind of food court. There, I had chicken sushi, almost feeling bad for picking tuna after seeing them swim around.
Then I got right back into it and went to go look at my favourite animal, the turtle. They were in petting pools supervised by an employee. The air felt damper here, crisp and smelt a tad salty. The turtles shell was hard and wet. I had gotten told off for taking photos with my flash on, I felt bad because it had just slipped my mind. Woops ahah.
After a long day here, I flipped through my wallet to find a piece of paper the hotel had given to call the driver when I had wanted to come home. I thought this was excellent and the bill would go to the hotel. So I called it and waited no longer than 15 minutes for my lift. The driver was the same I had this morning, he was a middle aged man who looked unplesant to be here.
When I got to the hotel, my room had been cleaned and I had fresh towels, there was also a room service menu on the table so I picked it up and looked at it for some dinner. I ordered the beef wellington with roast pumpkin and potatos, a pineapple juice to drink. I was looking forward to it, but I got angry. It took them 2 hours to make it! I was so close to calling reception and complaining. But, I knew just to hang on and it would come. Finally it did, and I didn't look happy when they gave it to me, I gave them the evils so they knew I was angry.
I got bored, so I turned on the tv and House was on. Hugh Laurie. What a funny fellow. Dad and I use to watch it together back home. I missed him. I called him and had a long conversation and assured him everything was okay, I called at a ridiculous hour, I forgot about time difference, ahah. By 10:30 I was yawning, so I got ready for bed and called it a day.
