The flight from Honolulu to Auckland was three Lord of the Rings movies long. My hotel room in Auckland was a pleasant surprise. It took me a while to realize that I was about four blocks from Queen Street, which is the main area for entertainment.... read more

This was what you could call a real long day and that following a long yesterday as well. The layover day in Los Angeles turned out to be very nice, but with one caviat, we had to leave the hotel at 6.00 PM, whereas our flight was at 11.10 PM. We spent abour 5 hours sitting a lounch at the airport. Although confortable, 5 hours are 5 hours. Leaving on Wednesday at 11.10 turned out well nevertheless; we fell asleep shortly after boarding and we slept about 6 hours, which with a flight of 13 hours is nice, but not great. Watching movies and drifting into sleep every once in a while, we arrived on Friday at 8.00 AM. Thursday never existed! Kind of strange. We were picked up at the airport and taken to our ... read more

Flying into Auckland I was full of excitement and also a little anxiety. The New Zealand outdoors are legendary and I could not wait to travel them to see it for myself. Problem was I didn't really have a plan on how to get around. I quickly ruled out taking a "backpacker" hop on hop off bus tour as I wanted to travel at my own pace and see some of the lesser known places and less traveled roads on the North and South Islands of New Zealand. My other two options were buy or rent a car. I found a few good deals for purchasing a car for around $NZ1,100 which upon departure I could resell to get some of my money back, but I worried about a possible lemon and the problems that could ... read more

Jutri bova obiskala aucklandski akvarij in plažo piha zahodno od mesta.... read more

Yes, it really is another five hours flying time once you pass over Australia! But eventually the Chinese passengers are being told off AGAIN for ignoring the 'go back to your seats and put on your seat-belts' announcement that they've been ignoring all throughout the flight whenever we get a bit of turbulence, and we begin our descent. And beautiful it is too with lush green mountain folds giving way to a sun-sparkled sea dotted with islands surrounded by sighs of envy at realising people actually live on these mini spots of paradise. I know this won't last long as more people replace old passports, but for now I forgive my dreadful new passport photo for verily my new passport holdeth treasures of joy that help me queue jump like the VIP biatch that I really ... read more

Yesterday (3rd February) we decided to act like the true tourists we are and explore Aucklands town centre and the viaduct by foot. We browsed through some shops on Queen Street (the main high street) before heading towards the Sky Tower, Aucklands most renowned landmark. It is the Southern Hemispheres tallest structure at 328m and can be seen practically wherever you are in the city. After a short lift journey to the viewing platform at the top we were greated with stunning 360 views. It was a beautiful, clear day and we could see the entire city, the surrounding suburbs and as far as Rangitoto and Waihiki island in the distance. The views were amazing and it was great to be able to see the entire city from such a height. After this we carried on ... read more

So we have arrived!!! 14,000 miles, 30 hours and a menial 6 hours sleep later we touched down in Auckland, New Zealand!! Not the hugest fans of flying (slight understatement) it felt great to have our feet back on solid ground for more than just a few hours and to unnumb our bums! We had a lovely welcome from my cousin Nic who met us from the airport and took us to our hotel in the centre of Auckland. Despite the obvious lack of sleep we only tried to have a wee power nap when we arrived to fight the jet lag before getting ready to go meet my cousin again for some food. We were both quite worried about being affected by jet lag but thankfully it hasn't taken to us too bad at all ... read more
