Got up on Abi's birthday and it was lashing down. Not good news as we'd booked a four hour horse trek at Awhitu, about an hour away. Steve kindly took us there and the weather cleared as soon as we got going. A horse called Trampy got the short straw and got me. This was no gentle walk down to the beach. There were some serious gullies heading down to the sea with steep climbs and falls which certainly stretched my riding to it's limit - although Abi (no pun intended) seemed to take it all in her stride. The scenery was breathtaking and we ended up on the black sand beach to find the spring tide was in too far to allow a gallop along it. That certainly saved my bum from more punishment.
