Bula!! We cant believe its out 10th day in Fiji already..After arriving at 4am we managed to get up and get on a boat from Nadi to Mana island with no jet lag at all! The boat journey was quite exciting however we were disheartened by the 'groovy gappers' that surrounded us! Mana was not what we expected and to be honest not the best first impression of Fiji. The beach was tiny very narrow and covered in seaweed, the food was awful and we booked a double room that was so tiny! Also, there was no electricity and no running water. But we did have nearly 4 litres of Fiji beer that night to improve the mood. Next we went to beachcomber island and it was a huge contrast to the Mana. The beach was ... read more

FIJI Saturday, 6 May 2006 - Tuesday, 9 May 2006 As predicted by the Lonely Planet Guide to Fiji (thanx Tim) I was bombarded with travel agents as soon as I passed customs...not having anywhere to stay I was taken to one of the offices where I was pretty much given one hostel option for a place in Nadi & 2 island options. Just coming off a night flight I didn't stop to think that it was a bit weird and so went with the recommendations. The Nadi hostel (BTW it's called Western Hostel & is best avoided) was sooooo gross! The staff were so friendly but that's pretty much the only good thing it had. As I had pre paid 4 nights I was pretty much stuck but managed to pass the days by reading ... read more

Wow, what can I say, Fiji is superb place to visit! Anyways all in one review, easier for you. Sunday - arrive 3am, my 'feejee experience' office is locked, slight panic and visions of sleeping on park bench, it's okay the chap had just gone to the toilet. get dodgy van over to my hostel resort, slip into bed at 4am, get up later and spend an entire day by the pool feeling guilty for being Western Monday - leave 8am on big green 'feejee epericnce' bus, not that busy, anyway I can't remember place names, first thing is Nadi market, crap, but buy a fetching sarong/sula. Then go to a remote beach and face the biggest waves I've ever seen, get whacked back onto beach several times, bit like being in the Posieden Adventure and ... read more

After the Fiji Experience, myself and 7 lads went on to do a bit of Island hopping. First stop was Beachcomber Island...the party Island. On the ferry over someone mentioned that there was supposed to be a concert of some sort going on at the time we were there but as we hadn't heard anything about it we didn't really pay much attention. As it turns out, CocaCola in NewZealand had run a competition in which the winners would get to go to a fijian Island and watch the "Rock the Tropics" concert. Just so happened that the concert was the night we got there! As there is only one resort on the island we had a beach concert all to ourselves and it was awesome. I bumped into Jenny, a girl from the fiji experience ... read more

Was not at all what we expected. But once we got over the fact that we had another 9 days in this version of paradise we made the best of our situation. We started on the Island of Nacula, right at the top and stayed at a resort called Oarsmans Bay Lodge which was alright, apart for my two bed mates that woke me up in the middle of the night flapping around (cockroaches). This was the best beach of all of the Islands we visited. We then went to Taweva Island and stayed at Coral View Resort which was lovely, I didn't have any bed guests for the 2 nights whilst we were there, so I was very grateful for that. The atmosphere there was great, and I think this was our favourite place- they ... read more

Got back from Fiji this morning but it wasn't really what we expected. We did have a really good time but I think it was more because of the people we met. We imagined it would be clear water, white sand, blue skies and sunshine but most of the time the water was too shallow to swim in and there was seaweed and stuff in the sea, there wasn't long streches of white sand (the sand wasn't that white and there were quite a lot of rocks and coral on the sand) and we only had one day of clear blue sky and sunshine, most days it was cloudy! So really not what we expected at all. Plus we did a deal with the Awesome Adventures package and there were lots of hidden costs so we ... read more

I left LA on the 18th May and arrived at the airport in Fiji at about 3am on May 20th having not existed on May 19th!! I was greeted by to Fijian men playing the banjo and singing very happily, a little too happily for that hour of the day if I'm honest! I then made my way to the Fiji Experience desk where I was given a shell necklace to wear. I met a couple from England who were also going to be on my bus, in only 5 hours time! A taxi took us to the hostel but seeing as I only had a few hours to sleep before the bus picked us up in the morning, the receptionist told me to crash on the sofa in reception. Free night-result! In the morning the ... read more
