10th APRIL 2009 - JAM PACKED DAY & LETHAL DRINKING GAMES!!
I got up at 7.30am for breakfast. Once again I over indulged on pancakes, toast, fruit and cereal! As a result my stomach expanded further which was bad news for my clothing!! We had a good giggle over breakfast with the lasses we sat with last night and an Irish couple (Jen and Liam) who were really nice! I swear...the whole island was full of Irish travellers...better not bring out the Paddy and Murphy jokes!!!! Following breakfast we went to reception to try and sort out having to leave earlier than originally booked for. We weren't fighting to stay for the 4 nights booked as we would be the only people on the island not involved with the wedding, but we did want some money back!! We were advised that we could stay on the island all through Saturday and stay for the night show. We would then have to travel back to the mainland with the night show guests. That would be good for us as it meant that we got 2 full days on the island rather than one but we still wanted some money back!! They did
give us $70.00 which wasn't too bad but I was still of the opinion that we paid over the odds!! Oh well...you win some and lose some!!
We then headed to the beach to top our tans up for an hour or 2. It was so damn hot...almost too hot to lie in!! I was pleased that there was a pool to cool off in! The sea wasn't really inviting...too much seaweed!! At 11.30am we went with Steve (a Fijian guy who worked on the island) to hunt for coconuts! It wasn't really an exciting hunt as coconuts don't really try and hide. They just sit in the trees and at the bottom of trees when they fall off! I think we were just there to help carry them! Once we were loaded up with coconuts we took them back to camp to make some jewellery. It was a day of bracelet making and Steve showed us how to do it before unleashing us on the saws! It was hard work sawing through the shell in the hot sun but I managed it and then got to work sanding the outside! It was fun making them but my bracelet
turned out to be far too big for my arm and I made a mental note to pick a smaller coconut next time!! Then again...if I carried on eating the way I was, the bracelet would fit me snugly in no time!!
By the time we had finished jewellery making, it was time for lunch! Spaghetti and meatballs! Very tasty and I knew that I was being fed far too well! I tried to control my portion size a little before I started to look like Vanessa Feltz!! After lunch we headed up to a nicer end of the beach with less seaweed. Ashleigh, Dee and Catherine came with us and we all chilled out in the sun for a while. After 30 minutes or so, Steve and a few more Islanders came up the beach for the fish drive. Basically dragged a net through the water and caught loads of little fish. Quite cruel really as too small to eat but he skewered them anyway and pit them on a stick. How savage!! Said they were bait for bigger fish but I wasn't so sure. Do big fish eat little fish? They put the net in again and
this time 2 blowfish got tangled up in it. It was not nice though quite funny at the same time to see water squirting out of them as they deflated. He threw them back in the water and they lived! It was like free Willy only with blow fish!! Heart warming!!
A spot more sun bathing was done and then we got into teams for volleyball. We won our first game to take us into the final and then won the final too though it was pretty close! I could lie and say that I contributed greatly but if I am honest my volleyball skills in that game were shocking! Really nice that everyone played though. No separate clique groups just everyone in! Such a community feel!! After volleyball it was the moment I had been waiting for since my arrival...time to test out the bucket showers!!
Such a novel idea and I actually enjoyed filling the bucket up and hoisting it above my head. Gave my guns a workout too and it wasn't even a Tuesday!!! I took a spare bucket in with me as I was sure I would run out of water but I didn't
even need it! I managed to shampoo and conditioner all with one bucket! Not exactly a full on herbal essence moment but I actually quite enjoyed it! I think we should get one at home so that my sister won't spend as long in the bathroom!! Get on it dad!!
After showers we went and sat on the beach for a sunset bonfire before heading to the seating area ready for tea. We had fish with it being Good Friday and some potatoes! Let’s not mention the meat we had at lunch time!! It was a tasty dinner anyway and my stomach expansion continued! May have to book 2 seats on the plane at this rate for my flight home!! Following dinner we started drinking and the games commenced!!
First we played games that the island organised. We were put into teams and I was with Nat, Liam (1 half of the Irish couple), Adam (an English guy) and Noah (a child). We each had to run to a post, put our heads on it, spin around it 10 times and then run back so the next person could go! Made you so dizzy...people were falling over everywhere
as did I...at least once!! We won our race thanks to Liam who was super fast at it!! We than had to do another race against the other winning team! There was a lot at stake as the winners could each claim a free drink from the bar! Pride was also an issue! They say to never change a winning formula and so we kept our order the same. This time we had to put the post up in the air on our foreheads and spin. A little easier but still sent your head spinning! Noah went first...a child against an Adult! He did ok and we were only trailing a little. Adam took the second spot and brought us back into the lead. I was up next....my head still spinning from the previous round! I managed to hold it together and despite feeling like I was in a washing machine I made it back without falling to my feet! Nat was up next...it was neck and neck almost!! Liam took our final run. Boy he was fast but he was against a little super cute girl! They came over the line at the same time. It was a close
call and the judge put it to the audience vote! The super cute little girl won out and we hung our heads in shame!! Damn you pigtails and ribbons!! No free drink for us!!
After the organised games we began our own card games and drinking games. I lost big time on a few rounds and it all went downhill from there! Glad Nat and I had taken our own alcohol to the island...least I wasn't spending any money even if it did mean honing my secret service skills by smuggling it down from the room each time I needed a refill! I knew I was drunk and so when we all joined together for a big game of 'ring of fire' I knew I needed to go steady. I filled 2 glasses up...1 with vodka and orange to drink at my own pace and the other with water for when I had to down stuff! I know it was cheating but I was trying to be sensible! It was all going well enough until I pulled out the final king which meant I had to down the mixture of drinks that had been poured into the middle glass...none
of then were water! Not funny in the slightest!!
Games over, we headed (I stumbled) down to the beach for the midnight bonfire. Lots of banter and I am sure I was very loud in my drunken state! I rolled into bed at around 3am and hoped that the following day would not be a repeat of the Mana Island hangover day!!
