3:15pm - Yesterday was a slightly breezy day but bored of staying around the resort we decided to go test out a new area. We originally planned to head into the centre of the island. Suva. But learning that this was 4 hours away by bus we decided to postpone the journey for a day when we were up at a horribly early time to get the most out of the trip. Instead we headed to Coral Coast. Which can you believe housed ridiculous amounts of coral. Being a blustery day there was no chance of swimming so we headed to a wildlife sanctuary. Nothing as we expected for just $20 figi dollars (just over 6 pound) we headed inside to be greeted by the islands native boa snake (luckily caged). After checking for Claire that ... read more

2:30pm - Wow the weather here is baking. It beautiful and yet extreme, you dont quite know weather to sunbathe or curl up in a ball with the aircon on. We've stayed 2 nights now in our room, another 5 nights to go until we head to New Zealand. As yesterday was a sunday most of the day was spent exploring the small area near our hotel (being such a strongly religious country few things are open on a sunday and the bus service cancelled. Sad as it is to say we spent most of the evening sat playing cards (the many games that I am learning) whilst in the bar. The drink is lovely and cheap with foriegn measures which made for a very happy Kelly and Claire. I had the lovely bonus last night ... read more

10pm - So we have made it across the sea's and onto the next part of our journey. We arrived not long ago and the weather although nighttime was boiling. Not one to complain about that! The Island night in Rarotonga yesterday was extremely enjoyable watching the native dancing and the drums (which were amazing). They got many of the audience though, fortunatly, both myself and claire were safe. The dancers were amazing and yes mum the men were topless. If i was the kind of girl to look then i would have been very appreciative. But im not, ahem! It was nice to have a drink (our first so far). Today was spent relaxing on the beach as we had a few hours to waste before we caught our plane. Luckily the weather was nice ... read more

Bula everyone! After a 26+ hour flight we have finally arrived here in Fiji. The flight itself was pretty good if you think trying to sleep in an area the size of a pea is good. But the movies and food were good so can't complain! Staff were friendly, but "strictly prohibited" the use of toliets by more than one person...what they were talking about we have no idea!! Needless to say, we stayed strapped in our seats! LA was a bit of a nightmare, 2 hours just to get through immigration, by which time the sniffer dog ("canine" in the US) had found Jon's plums...I mean the ones in the bag he was carrying for Fi :) We then got a telling off for throwing them in the bin..oops. Anyway, we arrived in Nadi, greeted ... read more

From New Zealand Fiji was just a 4.5 hr flight, but heading north again to the warmer climates. Fiji is made up of over 300 Islands, and I flew into the main airport Nadi on the Island of Vita Leva. I had been told leave Vita Leva ASAP, but the guys I had travelled here from NZ had booked a hotel on the south coast, a place called Beach House on the Coral Coast, so I decided to tag along with them. It was a 3hr bus ride along the coast from the airport to Coral Coast. The place was fantastic, but what was a bit weird was that we found out that the Hotel had been used for Celebrity Love Island II !! The Diary room or what ever it had still had the one ... read more

I've realised that I haven't been as good about keeping my blog up to date as I was hoping to do. Not only is it difficult to find an internet connection that works in the middle of the South Pacific, but lying in a hammock reading or snorkling among the amazing corals is so much more appealing. However, as I finished up my 10 days in the Mamanuca & Yasawa Islands of Fiji, I've come down with a nasty flu (at least I think that's what it is), so I'm stuck in a rather nice backpackers hostel (clean, air conditioned & working email) while I recover. I really didn't fancy doing my trek down the coast when I feel like my head is about to explode, and I cannot literally get up to do more than ... read more

So our time in this spectacular place has finally come to a close. I can't believe it's already over. It seems just like yesterday we woke up at 1:30 in the morning to catch a flight to LA, and on to Fiji. Looking back over the past two months it is unreal how much we've both experienced, learned and changed. What a new perspective a place like this allows you to have on the rest of the world. I like to think that we've left our mark on these little islands in the South Pacific as well... but then again, not nearly as much as they've left theirs on us. The excitement ahead is the only thing keeping this departure from being a little to hard to handle. For so long (or so it seems) these ... read more

Bula!! Today is Friday and we are due to leave Fiji tomorrow. As a personal reflection, Fiji has really grown on me since we first arrived. Initially I found the contrasts between the expensive resorts and the poorer areas a little alienating. It was certainly quite a culture shock from New Zealand. It was also a shame that we didn’t have the opportunity to visit all the smaller, more picturesque islands. However, we did have a really interesting time during our 3 day, 2 night trip to Mana Island... On Wednesday we assembled on New Town Beach to await our vessel to take us to Mana Island. About an hour and a half later (Fiji time!!) a small rickety speed boat pulled up, and all twenty of us waded through the water, massive rucksacks held up ... read more

The pea sat alone in the hire car, as the driver speed away from her two, furry friends; Anna and Beanie. They were heading to the south island of New Zealand for a week, while the Pea was heading out to Fiji! :( The flight went nice and smoothy, I tucked into ice cream while watching "Becoming Jane". Arrived at 9pm Fiji time and peeled off the ten jumpers I had been wearing in New Zealand and headed to the mini bus provided by the hostel. That night sleeping alone, was very strange and for safety I pushed a dresser and chair againiat the door and slept with my hair brush in my hand! Next day I was up bright and early to go on a tour of Nadi, that was organised by the hostel. We ... read more

As we arrived in Fiji we instantly felt the heat, even though it was in the evening, and were greeted at the airport with a fijian band playing traditional music. Straight away we knew we were gonna love fiji. Our first impressions couldn't be any more true! We have had such a great time here and are glad we decided to come for almost a month instead of just a few days like most people do on there way home. We settled into our hostel and prepared the the exciting day ahead of us. We were of of the postcard-picture-perfect beachs of the Yasawa Islands. Whilst cruising between islands we had awesome fews of islands we couldn't visit but the ones we did were great. The first Island- 'Nanya leilei' was a larger island. We ... read more
