Just to set the record straight or should I say set your minds at rest as we dont know how much the hurricane has been in the news, we are fine.
We got a small fishing boat out to a tiny island called Bounty when we arrived in Fiji. Bounty Island is where Celebrity Love Island was filmed for thoes who watched it. The next day we were told that the American navy had banned all boats on the water and that we were marooned on the island....oh know we were devestated to be marooned on a paradise island as you can imagine.
We were having a whale of a time, there were a few moment that it got a bit scary as the only information we would get was from the emergency radio broadcasts....I felt like in the war waiting for the airraids round the wireless. Apart from that there was no wind no rain....no Hurricane Tomas, just the 9 or so of us on the island with the amazing staff and a few huts....paradise.
We had a little hut right on the beach with its own hammock, the island was so small you could walk round
it in 15 mins with only about 15 huts on one side of it with a pool and bar, the rest of the island was just trees and flowers. We could hear the sea at night from our room and pretty much spent all of our time in our swimmers and no shoes and I loved it.....god love Fiji.
We have got great tans met some great people and have learnt some new fajian trades such as making jewlery from coconuts and weaving bags and hats from leaves....lee has even had a bit of a tinker to try and fix there quad that broke down about 3 years ago so in all we have had a great time. No one usually stays on the island for longer than 2 days so we turned into the locas being there 6 nights. Each day we would chat with the staff that live there and play volleyball with them and drink their local herbal drink which is banned in the US!!!!
We even managed to go out snorkeling while the rest of the country were being blown away and saw iny turtles and reef shark and nemo...finally as we have been
looking for him al over the world.
Once the hurrican had passed and boats were going again we didnt have much time left in Fiji so we just stayed at bounty as wer loved it so much....I think because we have spent so long moving on every day it was just so nice to get to know somewhere better and feel like we belong. We knew all the staffs names and they knew ours everyday we would laugh and joke with them and they would call us the locals too joking that lee was the godfather. We were really sad to leave today but on to Hawaii for us.
We have lots of great photos of Bounty but alot of them are on otherpeoples cameras so we will have to jusrt show you what we have for now.
Sorry if we scared any one with our late night phonecalls....I wasnt really worried about the hurrican but it did cross my mind that if anything did happen to us no one would even know where we were so we wanted to let you know where to look!!!! To be honest I was a bit dissapointed that we had
nothing not even a bit of rain...having said that from what we have seen some parts have been so destroyed we were lucky.
Hopefully we will love Hawaii as much as fiji...will let you know
Love to you all as ever
Katy and Lee
