View from Our Room
Lying in bed looking out to the lagoon - not a bad way to start the day! We awoke fairly early (after Jeni's very sleepless night!) and went to breakfast at around 8.30. The weather was a bit overcast but this cleared after a few hours. It was so lovely to be back again less than a year since our last visit and Mel really loved the resort and the position of it on the lagoon, especially looking out over the lagoon while eating breakfast. The thousands of Blue Trevally were still waiting for their bread breakfast each morning and the staff were just as helpful and lovely.
After breakfast we took the orientation tour of the resort (we didn't do it last year so thought it would be a good idea to see what was on offer at the resort this year).
Afterwards Jeni booked an Aitutaki Day Tour and originally tried to book it for Thursday (12th) but it was fully booked and so managed to book it for the Friday. It was only after the lady at the tour desk wrote in the date that we realised we would be going on our 10th anniversary and we were really pleased we would spend such a special occasion at our absolute favourite place!!!
View from Our Balcony Area
From our balcony overlooking the lagoon - very peaceful! Then Steve and Jeni went snorkelling for about an hour and a half and, just like last year, were fascinated and in awe of the many beautiful fish within arms reach. It was so lovely to be back doing our favourite thing as we find snorkelling to be a fantastic way of exercising while staying cool and being entertained all at the same time! While we snorkelled Mel swam and sunbathed at the resort pool and, as usual, became "Mrs Brown" within a matter of hours! To get rid of the salt off our bathers Jeni and Steve joined Mel for a swim in the pool before having showers and getting ready for lunch.
During lunch we met Tavita (our waiter from Aitutaki last year) and he remembered us and we all laughed as we reminisced about our “fun” meal with him. It was fantastic to see him again as he was one of the highlights of last year's trip!
In the afternoon we played May I outside at the table on our balcony but after a few hands decided to take advantage of the airconditioning in our room as it was quite humid, so we played inside
Steve on Our Balcony
Steve enjoying the view over the lagoon - we could get used to this... but still looked out on the beautiful view from our room. Steve won both games again - he was on a real winning streak! Eventually we realised we were all really tired as we were doing and saying silly things so we decided to have a sleep until dinner.
We woke at about 5.40 and dressed for dinner which was the Firedance Show & BBQ. We shared a lovely meal and the show was very entertaining.
Afterwards Jeni saw a woman taking a photo of her husband with one of the waiters so asked if they'd like her to take a photo of the three of them together, which she did. We talked together for about 10 minutes as they were from Brisbane and then Mel and Steve came and joined us. It eventually turned out that they were Ros and Len Elms and also go to Gateway Baptist Church and had been for several years! We were all astounded that we had to come to such a small remote island to actually meet them, and consequently swapped phone numbers. They were leaving the next day and we couldn't believe what a small world we live in and
Steve on our Balcony
Looking from the beach back to our room and balcony area while Steve relaxes after breakfast. how incredible it was to meet them on their last night.
Afterwards we went back to our rooms for a cuppa and then an early night, still astounded at meeting them so far from home.
