For their 30th anniversary this year, Marion and Ferdy decided to go back to Australia, no kids this time, to explore many of the areas we did not see when we traveled there as a family in 1998, and when Marion visited April in Perth in 2012. So, we're leaving on November 3, 2017 and will spend a month there.

We will fly to Melbourne, via Vancouver and Brisbane, where we will meet up with second cousin Erwin Doreleijers to visit with his family in Frankston for a couple of days. After that, we will take the Greyhound bus from Melbourne to Adelaide to visit with friends Kathy and Mark, and Joy and Geoff, to explore that area for a few days. That's where comfort ends for a while as we travel by Greyhound bus through The Outback to Darwin, with stops in Coober Pedy, Alice Springs, Ayers Rock (Uluru), and Katherine, a one-way trip of about 3,300 km!!

From Alice Springs, we will take a 3-day guided tour to Uluru (Ayer's Rock), sleeping two nights under the stars in a swag (water-proof sleeping bag). We were told by an Australian travel consultant not to worry about the creepy crawlies and snakes, and whatever other bad characters they have around there, since they're only interested in attacking Americans.... sure. We're told tour guides like tourists from away, they're likely to believe more of their stories than Australians would.

After four days in Darwin at the start of the wet season, we fly to Perth so that Ferdy can experience where April studied and played, and where Marion traveled with Angela, and part-time with Kathy and Joy. We will also spend time in Margaret River (wineries and beaches), as well as Donnelly River, an old logging settlement where we expect to be entertained by many wild kangaroos, emus and colourful birds, nicely captured on video by April when she visited there in 2012. We begin our trip home on December 2, via Melbourne and Vancouver.

Thanks to Nancy and John for suggesting this blog site. Hope we will be able to keep entering interesting travel experiences and photos for friends and family to follow. Stay tuned....
