The Bee Gees way in Redcliffe
This is one of my favorite places in Australia. I love this band since I was a student learning English.I had never expected to visit Australia but was finally here. It's always a special place to visit. The country has picturesque landscapes, amazing history, delicious food as well as kind people. I have been to three biggest cities of Australia which are Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. I have also been to five out of the six states which are Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, as well as two territories which are the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). Much of my time was spent on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. The town where I stayed has a population of 20,000 people, so it’s very quiet. At 5pm shops are closed and people go home or do sports like cycling, boat rowing, playing rugby etc. My favorite city to live is Brisbane. I love Brisbane river and the CBD, as well as Sunnybank where many Asians often go to get delicious food of their own countries. There are many beautiful parks in the city. It's very easy to move around thanks to the convenient bus system.

The band was playing the famous song "Somebody that I used to know" with different drums. seaside, and warm in the winter (above 20oC). The sun shines most of the time and it only rains a few days. The coldest temperature is about 17oC. Brisbane is further in land, so it's hotter and more humid in the summer time. It's cool at night and still very comfortable in comparison with the heat in Vietnam.
Along with visiting markets on the weekends, different towns, magnificent beaches, Australia Zoo, Underwater World, national parks, as well as museums, I had the chance to see many historical sites and Vietnam veterans memorial park on Bribie island (in memory of Australian soldiers who fought and died in the Vietnam war during 1962 – 1973). I also had an interesting evening at the RSL (returned and services league). This is a veteran club where anyone can buy a membership card and go to enjoy food, live music, dance and play at a mini casino. Every city/town in Australia has a RSL and it’s a typical of Aussie life style.
One of my funny experiences was with the magpies. They are as small as pigeons and have black and white feathers. Spring is the time when magpies lay eggs or have
babies and they often swoop on people cycling from behind who are near their bird nests. I was attacked several times by magpies as I wore a red helmet when cycling and it was sparkling. Some locals put black plastic sticks on their helmets and I also had one. But it didn’t prevent magpies from attacking my helmet. One day the magpies were so aggressive that they attacked me many times and even stood on a tree branch or power pole and waited until I moved on to attack me again. It was so unpleasant that I had to give up cycling around Lake Kawana.
The highlights of my trips to Australia are as follows:
- Watching the fireworks at the Sydney Harbor Bridge on the New Year's Eve 2013;
- Visiting Sydney Opera House at the sunset and the landscape of the Harbor was like in the fairy tale;
- Traveling on a one-day tour to Kakadu National Park near Darwin and looking at the incredible art work carved on the rocks by the aboriginals thousands of the years ago;
- Walking down 900 stairs of the Blue Mountains near Sydney and going straight
backwards by train;
- Seeing snow on the Mountain Buller near Melbourne;
- Walking on the Bee Gees way in Redcliffe and listening to their music;
- A day trip to Australia zoo to see kangaroos and koalas;
- Walking 13km through Carnarvon Gorge, and visiting an old underground sapphire mine in Emerald (famous for sapphire and ruby mining);
- Tasmania is still the most beautiful place in Australia that I have been to.
I like Australian food, even though sometimes I found them too salty or too sweet to me. I had the chance to taste lamp, kangaroo and shark meat. I like lamb shank and cheese cake. I brought many souvenirs from Vietnam and presented them to some Australians I met during my stay. Some of them were very surprised at first when I presented them a small gift from Vietnam. They were very happy and said thanks to me many times. A lady at a shop even gave me two little packets of macadamia nuts in return. The tour guide in Darwin was so touched when I presented her little dolls from Vietnam. She said she had never been given anything
by tourists.

Tôi chưa bao giờ dự định đến nước Úc, nhưng cuối cùng là tôi đã đến đây. Nước Úc luôn là một nơi thật đặc biệt để đến thăm. Đất nước này có phong cảnh thiên nhiên tuyệt đẹp, lịch sử lâu đời, các món ăn ngon và những người dân tốt bụng. Tôi đã đến thăm 3 thành phố lớn nhất của Úc là Sydney, Melbourne và Brisbane. Tôi cũng đã đặt chân đến 5 trong số 6 bang của nước Úc là bang Queensland, bang New South Wales, bang Victoria, bang đảo Tasmania, bang Nam Úc, và cũng đến 2 vùng lãnh thổ là Northern Territory và Australian Capital Territory (ACT, nơi có thủ đô Canberra). Phần lớn thời gian của tôi là ở vùng Sunshine Coast của bang Queensland. Thị trấn nơi tôi ở có số dân rất ít, chỉ có 20.000 người, nên rất yên tĩnh và vắng lặng. 5 giờ chiều là các cửa hàng đóng cửa
và mọi người đi về nhà hoặc chơi thể thao như đạp xe, chèo thuyền hay chơi bóng bầu dục v.v. Nơi tôi thích sống là thành phố Brisbane. I thích sông Brisbane, khu trung tâm tài chính, cũng như Sunnybank là nơi tập trung các quán ăn của người Châu Á và luôn nhộn nhịp. Ở Brisbane cũng có nhiều công viên đẹp. Việc đi lại cũng rất thuận tiện do có hệ thống xe bus tốt.
Thời tiết ở vùng Sunshine Coast ôn hòa hơn. Trời mát mẻ vào mùa hè do ở gần biển và ấm áp vào mùa đông (từ 17 đến 20oC). Trời nắng phần lớn các ngày trong năm và chỉ có vài ngày mưa. Thành phố Brisbane ở sâu trong lục địa nên thời tiết nóng và ẩm hơn vào mùa hè. Đến đêm thì trời mát và vẫn dễ chịu hơn so với ở Việt Nam.
Ngoài việc đến thăm các phiên chợ vào các ngày cuối tuần, những thị trấn nhỏ, những bãi biển tuyệt đẹp, vườn bách thú Australia, thế giới đại dương, cũng như các viện bảo tàng, tôi đã có cơ hội đến thăm các di
tích lịch sử và công viên tưởng nhớ các cựu chiến binh trong chiến tranh Việt Nam trên đảo Bribie (để tưởng nhớ các binh lính người Úc đã chiến đấu và tử trận trong chiến tranh Việt Nam từ năm 1962 – 1973). Tôi cũng có một buổi tối thú vị tại RSL. Đây là câu lạc bộ cựu chiến binh nơi bất kỳ ai cũng có thể mua thẻ thành viên, ăn tối, nghe biểu diễn ca nhạc, khiêu vũ hay đánh bạc tại một casino nhỏ. Mỗi thành phố hay thị trấn của nước Úc đều có một câu lạc bộ cựu chiến binh như vậy và đây là nét điển hình của phong cách sống của người Úc.
Một trong những trải nghiệm hài hước của tôi là với loài chim ác là của Úc. Loại chim này nhỏ như chim bồ câu và có lông màu trắng đen. Vào mùa xuân, loài chim này đẻ trứng hoặc có con nhỏ. Chúng thường tấn công người đi xe đạp từ phía sau nếu họ đi gần tổ của chúng. Tôi bị loại chim này tấn công vài lần vì tôi đội mũ bảo hiểm màu
đỏ và khi đạp xe thì mũ có màu lấp lánh. Một số người Úc gắn những miếng nhựa nhọn màu đen lên trên mũ và tôi cũng có một miếng nhựa như vậy. Tuy nhiên, điều này cũng không ngăn được lũ chim ác là tấn công mũ bảo hiểm của tôi. Một hôm, những con chim ác là này hiếu chiến đến mức chúng tấn công tôi nhiều lần và thậm chí còn đứng ở trên cành cây hoặc trên cột điện và chờ tôi đi tiếp để lại tấn công. Điều này không hề dễ chịu chút nào nên tôi đành phải từ bỏ việc đạp xe quanh hồ Kawana.
Những điều mà tôi thích nhất trong các chuyến đi đến Úc là:
- Ngắm nhìn pháo hoa đêm giao thừa năm 2013 tại cầu cảng Sydney;
- Đến thăm Nhà hát hình con sò ở Sydney vào lúc hoàng hôn và thấy phong cảnh của bến cảng Sydney với những con tàu trông như trong truyện cổ tích;
- Đi tour một ngày đến Công viên quốc gia Kakadu gần Darwin và nhìn thấy những hình vẽ của thổ dân Úc trên
đá từ cách đây hàng ngàn năm;
- Đi bộ xuống 900 bậc thang ở vùng núi Blue Mountains gần Sydney rồi đi ngược thẳng lên bằng tàu;
- Nhìn thấy tuyết trên núi Buller gần Melbourne;
- Đi trên con đường tưởng nhớ ban nhạc Bee Gees ở Redcliffe và nghe nhạc của họ;
- Nhìn thấy chuột túi kangaroo và gấu koala ở vườn thú Australia;
- Đi bộ 13km ở Carnavon Gorge (được coi như Grand Canyon của Úc) và thăm một mỏ ngầm cũ khai thác đá sapphire ở Emerald (nơi đây có các mỏ khai thác đá quý sapphire và ruby);
- Tasmania vẫn là nơi đẹp nhất ở nước Úc mà tôi đã được đến.
Tôi rất thích các món ăn của Úc, mặc dù đôi khi đồ ăn quá mặn hoặc quá ngọt đối với tôi. Tôi cũng có cơ hội thưởng thức thịt cừu, thịt kangaroo và thịt cá mập. Tôi mang theo nhiều quà lưu niệm từ Việt Nam và tặng cho những người Úc mà tôi đã gặp. Một vài người rất ngạc nhiên khi bất ngờ nhận được những món quà nhỏ
từ Việt Nam. Họ rất vui mừng và cảm ơn tôi nhiều lần. Một cô ở cửa hàng còn tặng cho tôi 2 túi hạt macadamia để cảm ơn. Khi tôi tặng những con búp bê sứ của Việt Nam cho hướng dẫn viên đi tour Công viên quốc gia Kakadu, cô rất cảm động và nói là chưa bao giờ được khách du lịch tặng quà.
