National Botanic Garden - Canberra
Nestled in the foothills of Black Mountain, the Australian National Botanic Gardens is the perfect retreat and this morning it seemed that Alex was the only person there.
These Botanic Gardens cares for the national collection of Australian native plants from all parts of Australia.
The plants are displayed for everyone to enjoy as well as for research into plant classification and biology.
The area is huge and we were only able to cover a small part of just four areas, The Rainforesy Gully, The Rock Garden, Red Centre Garden & Sydney Region Gully.
We could only see a small amount in the allotted time but still an enjoyable walk together with Alex.
Alex & Elizabeth met up early for a breakfast coffee and what fun as they discussed what was ‘The Best’ about each other’s cities. No beaches in Melbourne, and is Sydney’s coffee really the best I the world. Great banter between these two lovely guides.
Next, it was time to set off for a lovely walk to Bondi Beach, it was early and a week day so nit many people out and
about which was nice as we could enjoy watching the waves and absorbing the beautiful beach.
Graffiti is illegal in Australia, however recently there have been some city council initiatives that have encouraged artists to spray, paint, draw, create and design in public spaces and Bondi beach promenade is one of them! combining local and international artists, each art piece has a message behind it… some Australian history, some with national symbols and others just because!
One in particular which was quite moving was in memory of those who lost their lives during Bali bombings in 2002.
Leaving Sydney & Elizabeth behind Alex continued his road trip to enjoy a beautiful sunrise on Shelly Beach near Port Macquarie.
Beautiful skies with soft waves rolling onto the beach. A wonderful start to the day.
