Day 234 (15.11.07)

Today we had to drive back to Perth as the car was due to be returned the next morning. It's about 750km from Esperance so we set off early to get some distance under our belt.

In between Perth and Esperance is basically nothing except a few small towns and the natural wonder that is Wave Rock. Apparently formed around 60 million years ago by weathering and water erosion the rock is shaped like a perfect wave just about to break. At 15m high and 110m long it's a really impressive sight to behold and it's impossible to take photos of it without the obligatory surfing the rock shot.

We walked along the base of the rock and climbed over the top for great views of the surrounding area but were desperately wafting our tree branches to ward off the seemingly thousands of flies that wanted to befriend us. These little creatures really know how to ruin a good tourist spot!

Back in the car we were searching for a lunch spot that would be fly free but to no avail. We found a spot in the shade of a tree and sat in the car to eat our picnic before setting off for the last stretch to Perth.

We made great time as the roads are so straight and almost free from traffic and arrived in Perth around 5ish to begin the hunt for somewhere to stay. Beds booked we drove down to Cottesloe just outside the city centre to watch sunset on the beach and to drop Sabine back home.

Our road trip with Conrad and Sabine had come to an end - thanks guys, we had so much fun with you!
