Day 56 - Sunday 28 May 2006 Port Hedland to Marble Bar (the hottest town in the country) Only 200 km’s to travel today. It was reasonably cool leaving Port Hedland this morning and cloudy. The sun has come out so nice for travelling. The scenery all around us is red dirt and mountains of green coverage. Cattle scattered through the bush and lots of long road trains coming back to Port Hedland. The road trains are mostly 4 trailers long. I can only recall passing one with the caravan on and I thought we were never going to make it. Well - Marble Bar what can I say. Very quiet and a bit like a ghost town and unusual people. The three people that we spoke to had only recently moved here and that was ... read more

well, as i've said before, a part of my job on the station is to feed the donkey and some cows, the problem is that they cows usually eat the donkey's food, so i was trying to be smart and feed the cows first, that way they would leave wonkey (the donkey) alone.. well, the plan sortof backfired, i did feed the cows, but i guess that wonkey decided that it's pay back time and wouldn't lety the cows get their feed, i even tried to lure her away with the help of a carrot (i guess it looked really funny, me running in circles after a donkey). well, at the end the donkey ate all the cows food and the cows ate the donkey's, poetic justice? by the way dinner was schnitzels, mashed potatoes and ... read more

Happy birthday to me... Happy birthday to me... Happpppy birth day to meeeee.. happy birthday to meeee... so, if you haven't guessed, today was my birthday, and it was my last day on indee station.. i'm leaving tomorrow to go to monkey mia to voulenteer with the dolphins over there (yepiie), but i'm really sad to leave this place (maybe i'll come back, who knows, that's the good thing bout backpacking, u never know). yesterday i borrowed Ester's telescope and just looked up at the night sky, it's so different seeing things from that angle, makes you realise just how tiny we are and just how little we know.. the outback is so vast, yet for some reason i feel drawn to it, which is strange, considering the fact that i hate warm weather.. it's just ... read more

well, as i said before, Betty went away for the week and left me as the cook... so yesterday was a bit crazy, between feeding the chickens, donkey, cow and the humans... i made spagetti bologneise and a big tomato salad and a cherry pie.. apperantly everyone liked it (or were too hungry to care). the only problem was that the water refused to boil.. so we started eating half an hour later... it was really wierd cooking for so many people (were supposed to be 9, but were only 7 at the end). the farm life is soo cool, i love just staying here, life has a whole different pace here... well, i'll have to go and feed the donkey, hope the cows don't eat her food this time (she's only a baby donkey) later ... read more

Hello… well, my name is Hadas, and I’ve been travelling around Australia for about 3 and a half months now. It all started in July when me and my friend Adi flew over to Sydney from Israel (that’s where I live), we spent 3 months in the east coast, travelling from Sydney all the way up to Cairns, then Adi had to go back home and I flew to Perth. In Perth I met this really nice girl called Ester, she was my room mate in my hostel and we really hit it off (I guess I’m not the only nut around), Ester’s been staying on this cattle station that’s located in the middle of the outback (or “the bush”, as they call it here) I thought it was the coolest thing I’ve heard, since coming ... read more

Continuing our journey up the coast, we discovered that Pardoo Station, the roadhouse we wanted to stay at had closed down. So we ventured along a bumpy track, to Eighty Mile Beach. This is basically a campsite with many holiday makers, with only a beach for entertainment! A very relaxing place to spend the evening but by now we are tiring of campsites and having limited activities to entertain us once the sun has set! Bring on the bright lights of Broome!... read more

In convoy, we headed to Karijini National Park, after stocking up on food, checking tyre pressure etc! We tried to drive the bumpier route for a little while, but as Sian and Hayden took it the their (4X4) stride, little miss Tessie wasn't enjoying herself one bit. So we turned back, took the road route and met the 4X4ers at the Visior's Centre, where we paid for 2 nights in the 'campsite' ($5 per night per person). The so-called campsite was simply a piece of bumpy red ground, which I was glad not to be camping on! Oh and there was a bush loo (tin can with a hole in the ground)! What with the most annoying flies, we were all glad to head off to the gorges for a refreshing swim. We spent 2 days ... read more
