While I'm writing this, it's 11:11. Usually at 11:11, I make a wish but if I'm totally honest, I wouldn't know what to wish for at this exact moment. I'm feeling completely relaxed and happy. I'm currently sitting in the garden of the first place I'm staying at. I slept here for two nights, and tonight I'll be going somewhere else. I found this place via couchsurfing.com and I had no idea what to expect, but it's good. Drew, Dan and Nikki are great people. We had a really nice and long conversation on my first night here, even though I had planned to have an early night since I hadn't slept for over 45 hours (I didn't sleep on either of my flights at all, which sucked). Yesterday, we went to the bank so I could set up an Australian bank account and get a superannuation, which is basically the way Australian people save for their retirement. Obviously, I don't need that, but it's mandatory, so I got one anyways, and when I leave the country I can get the money that has been put in my superannuation back. I'm also taking an RSA (responsible service of alcohol) course online
because many hospitality jobs will require you to have an RSA certificate. We also went to the supermarket to get some food, and after that we just sat outside and chilled for a bit. The garden is great: they've got a pretty big couch that's completely in the shadows so you're not in the burning sun but it's still warm, there's a fridge outside too and there are speakers where they play the nicest music all day long.
I was planning on going into town yesterday evening since I hadn't seen any of that yet, but I suddenly felt super jetlagged so instead I fell asleep and napped for over 2 hours. After this, it was 10pm so there was no use in taking the bus to town anymore. But I had dinner with Drew and Dan which was nice, and when Nikki came home we sat around the table just chatting a bit, before we went to bed around 11:30pm.
I feel like I've finally recovered from all the time i spent on the airplane a bit. I'd never been on a flight that took longer than 6 hours, so 12 hours to Singapore and then about
5 hours to Perth was kind of a shock. I thought it'd be easy and fun to entertain myself during the whole flight by watching movies and tv-shows, but I felt so restless I couldn't finish anything and I was already bored after the first 4 hours. I was really glad when we finally arrived in Singapore and I had about three hours to freshen up, have a coffee and relax, even though I almost got stuck there since I'd left my passport and my boarding pass in the airplane. Luckily, I found out not too long after I'd gotten off the plane, so I ran back and found someone who could go and get them for me! On my second flight, from Singapore to Perth, I sat next to a really nice girl from South Africa who was on her way to Sydney to see some of her friends. When we arrived at the Perth airport around 3pm, I thought we'd be out of there in maybe 15-30 minutes, but boy was I wrong. After filling in a form, going through passport control and picking up our bags, which already took us over 30 minutes, we also had to go through another luggage check. The queue was incredibly long, and we had to wait about an hour before we could get out bags checked out. When we finally got through, the South African girl helped me to get an Australian sim card. Me and Drew decided we would meet in the city so I could pick up the keys to their house, so I took a bus and got off at the stop he told me to get off at.
At the bus stop, a guy came up to me asking me if I knew the way to the train station. I told him I didn't, since I'd only been in Perth for about two hours, and told him I had to make a call, since I had to ask Drew where to meet him and Dan for the keys. He then offered to walk me to the street I had to go to, since he knew his way around and he could carry one of my bags, which I was actually really grateful for since my back hurt from sitting on the plane for so long and my bags were quite heavy. After we'd picked up the key, he also walked me to the bus stop, took the bus with me, got off the bus with me, walked me to the place where I had to catch my second bus and took that bus with me too to show me where to get off. I'm glad he did, because I certainly wouldn't have known where to get off if he hadn't been there, since it doesn't say which busstop is going to be next anywhere, so you have no clue when and where to get off, you just have to look up the busstop you need to get off at on google maps and follow the blue dot that represents you until you're close to your destination, and then press the stop button. I have a feeling that'll go wrong a few times in the next few days, but hopefully I'll get used to it soon.
Now, I just had breakfast and I'm about to go into town and look for a job, so fingers crossed! I've also filmed quite a bit of stuff, I'll put that up as soon as I have the time to go through it and edit it a bit. Until next time!
